Rephlex which aspects of electronic muc do you tend to focus on / appeals to you most?si 1 2
by Guest Helper ET- 46 replies

when listening, do find your concentration repeatably leaning towards one aspect of the music compared to another? also, do you find that you favor a certain aspect of the music over another? for example, i tend to focus on the compositional side of things most often. production is another thing i always find myself listening to. this is also related to how some people focus mainly on the production alone, and electronic music is of course hot on production its strange to start classifying elements of electronic music, but for sake of discussion lets break them down simply -musical composition -beats -production -song structure -structural dynamics (long, exag…

INTERRUPTIONS #2. Once Upon a Time in CA. A mix curated by Chris Brown Just as the struggle for the Western U.S. in the late 19th century revolved around the construction of the railroad, the struggle for global domination was waged around the development of the new electronic communication technologies during the late 1970s and 1980s in Silicon Valley. It was a free-wheeling time for start-ups run out of garages by a bunch of do-it-yourself geeks and venture capitalists. Hanging around its edges and feeding off the surplus of its aircraft and electronics industries, a gaggle of music experimenters were dreaming of a future where technology might enable new kinds of…

I know everyone, including myself, makes fun of DJ Nate and his apparent ignorance of what makes a song actually listenable, but this guy is levels beyond Nate. If this came out before Da Trak Genious, the juke scene wouldn't be the laughingstock of a ton of forums. Before you knock, check it out! Love the female vocals in this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKNCopelbuA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYX1eYNsvj8

Opera
by Guest jim- 19 replies

Considering the way in which contemporary classical music and braindance seem to have been converging a bit of late, and the interest some of you take in stockhausen, ligeti, reich, scelsi and so forth, I wonder if opera is still a bit... middle class. Recently I was talking to someone who had written an opera for Glyndebourne and was trying to promote it to younger trendier types than the usual audience of merchant bankers and their bored wives. I thought he was approaching it in the wrong way by ignoring the growing interest in contemporary art music from idm people, he held the opinion that that enthusiasm would only extend so far and that opera was a bit beyond the pa…

Toro Y Moi - Still Sound
by Guest Coalbucket PI- 1 reply

This has been around for a while but I can't find any topics about it anywhere. New single from forthcoming album Underneath The Pine (due Feb 22) is on the carparkrecords soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/carparkrecords/toro-y-moi-still-sound and you will also find all the multitracks if you fancy a remix or just a clinical dismantling analysis. If anyone cares they have some Toro Y Moi t shirts for sale on carparkrecords.com. also if you want one and you're in europe I got one too many so I'm flogging one in a large. Just noticed there is a 7" split EP on their for March with Toro and Cloud Nothings, anybody know who that is?

Point out album covers. Good ones, that inspire thought or evoke imagery, ideas, or are just simply creative. A few of my favorites: (having nothing to do with the music) You can find a demon, a lion, a fox, a bat, and several other things in her hair Don't know why, I've just always loved the burn at the bottom of the bland cover

2010's Endless Summer. Very underappreciated album. I don't have words for this (mainly due to my limited english!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Al6e7kvimPY The extra bonus vinyl (called 'Love Is A Dream') It's worth checking too. Maybe I will not get any responses at all, but I'd be happy if somebody likes the tubes and decide to buy or listen the album. It even has a track named "Loving Love". I love loving love too.

if an mp3 simply can't be played in any music program, what are some possible reasons for this complication? i sent like 3 files to someone (compression into a RAR file was involved), and on his end, two of them can't be played, yet they work fine for me. is something fucking them up between point A and B? it's the first time this has happened to me

Here is where WATMM can talk about Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Vampire Weekend, Deerhunter, or any other bands that can be even slightly considered "indie rock". I'm downloading the new album by The Decemberists, which I am quite looking forward to hearing. After it's done I'm going to download Logos by Atlas Sound because a lot of my friends seem to enjoy it and it was released on Kranky.

Maybe old news for those on the pulse? Been having a butchers at the Monolith myspace page (not sure why I just sort of found myself there). There seems to be 4 tracks to play that maybe new to you. Or maybe not. Either way I quite like them.
