Music Fans: Do release dates affect the way you choose what to listen to / download / buy? Music Artists: In the discog section of your own official website, do you (or would you) make the release date a prominent thing next to each release or leave it out? I ask this because I wonder how it affects an album's potential to be heard. For example... if someone on the quest for fresh music lands on an artist's website and sees a release date of say 3 or 5 years ago, might they be less likely to give the music a try than if the release date wasn't staring them right in the face? Or would most people not care when it was made and listen based on other factors? …

In "The road to plunderphonia" Chris Cutler looks at the critical role of memory – on which both the origination and reproduction of music turns – and attempts to unpick to what extent the specific nature of a memory system shapes the music that it mediates, with reference, especially, to the third and newest of these systems: sound recording. Chris investigates how the fact and the practice of sound recording have transformed every aspect of production and reception in the field of organised sound, creating wholly new genres and understandings. If the medium is the message, this essay is an attempt to understand what the message of this system is. Link: http://bit.ly…

I am pretty young here and this band is the band of my life, in the middle of a 90s i was trying to play like Roger Taylor on my dad's drums, apart from electronic music, being drunk I can tell you that no other band will be more important than Queen, I was raised with all that masterpieces and I am proud of it, I don't give a shit about the older bands or sth like it, that was my fathers bands let's say, Queen was my first important band of a childhood and unfortunately nothing else will be better than this. What do you, especially brits, make of all this, is it Queen an important band for you?

Manitoba - People Eating Fruit: i love how it starts off slow and the track doesn't pick up till later. Phuture - Acid Tracks: classic acid house track. M83 - *: I'd probably really like this about 20 years ago. it's something that would probably grow on me if i gave it enough listens. brian eno - little fishes: pretty... so pretty! listening…

Just thought I'd pass along this podcast as something I really enjoyed. Kenny Larkin has had a long career in techno. He has some funny stories. It's an interview not a dj mix. http://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast-episode.aspx?exchange=20

Been really enjoying this record lately. What an atmosphere! One can't really call it ambient or techno or idm, or whatever, because its sound is just so unique. A couple of tracks for your pleasure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsmoOUKkerQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXztNVCEg6g

every indie music fan, electronic music fan, anyone vaguely nerdy, they love wu-tang. it's like an unspoken rule among middle class white males. is it the mythology built up around the group? the kung fu references? is this like the wire for rap? i like them too btw. i'm just interested in this phenomenon.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVYYLyyLY8U Do you think they even got Lopatin's permission? The song seems strangely out of place here. It seems like ford models just clicked on a few top 20 albums of 2010 lists, as Returnal is on all of them.

Is there a logical reason, or any other reason, why Japanese releases seem to get bonus tracks? Is it to gain fame in Japan? Seems a bit pointless to punish fans because of the country they live in.

"Deutsche Kassettentäter. The rise of the German homerecording tape scene, part #1", by Felix Kubin Link: http://rwm.macba.cat/en/curatorial?id_capsula=790 In the late 1970s, the German music scene was shaken up by a virtual explosion of new bands that sounded radically different to anything that had come before. They played music that was experimental, playful, absurd, minimalist and astute, with lyrics that were sung – or more commonly screamed – exclusively in German. Appalled rather than enthralled by this new expressionism, the record industry initially showed no interest in these groups, so new platforms had to be set up in order to spread the virus. Small c…
