Do anyone know any good youtube channels? Don't care what the content is, as long as they're good.

Please explain the Alien Universe to me

I watched Prometheus this week as its out on DVD etc as I find the cinema to be a rip off. I've seen a few of the Alien movies on TV but never from start to finish but I have seen most of the Alien vs Preadtor ones. Anyway I really enjoyed Prometheus but wasn't sure how it all fitted in or what it meant so read up about it online. But my question is how does the whole universe mesh together, is AvP an accepted part of the same universe or is it a spin off? The gigantic engineers created humans, all well and good. Years later Ripley and co stumble upon another planet with a crashed ship and set the Alien loose again, this spawns a few more movies. But where do the Pred…

Ok, so, picked this up on a total whim last week. Had sort of been on the radar but not a real "day one" thing for me. Still, had the urge to pick up something and since COD isn't out for a bit figured this would fill the void and provide at least moderate entertainment. A week later and I'm routinely staying up to some ungodly hour of the morning, blasting skags (wasteland dog-creatures) with my trust electro-charge shotgun and phase-walking invisible style around unexpectant roided baddies, reappearing with a shockwave and stun-meleeing so they move in slo-mo and I can repeatedly shoot them in the face with little danger. I've never even played Diablo, thoug…

With all the new electronic devices released this year you always see lines photo'ed online. Some countries like Japan go line crazy, while in places like US it's usually for a big event, iPhone etc. who has waited out here, and what was it for?

"Hundreds of problems have been found at European nuclear plants that would cost 25bn euros (£20bn) to fix, says a leaked draft report." "The report, commissioned after Japan's Fukushima nuclear disaster, aimed to see how Europe's nuclear power stations would cope during extreme emergencies." "The final report is to be published on Thursday. The draft says nearly all the EU's 143 nuclear plants need improving." "Anti-nuclear groups say the report's warnings do not go far enough." "For its part, the regulatory body for European nuclear safety has urged the Commission not to use language that could undermine public confidence, says the BBC's Chris Morris in …

I know a thread likes this pops up every now and then, but I am too lazy to do a search. I am in the market for a new (cheap) laptop and I don't want to by Asus again. The last Asus I owned (which is the one that just broke 2 minutes ago) had a lot of issues that I'd rather not deal with again, such as over heating, terrible track pad, hinges on LCD going to shit for no good reason at all. I hear Lenovo's are OK, and was also thinking about possibly getting a Think pad, but I am not sure. Shed some light on this, WATMM. Also don't say mac because mac's are whack.

There was a 50% sale on and I just picked up a beautiful little Blackberry Playbook 64gb, 180 quid bargain. Still working my around it but it seems very nice. Flash and all, the browsing is a good experience and its only a 7" screen so very portable. Front and back cameras which seem to be very good quality. Anyone have any other brands? I saw a nice looking Samsung but that was over 300 quid, fuck that.

Anyone ever use Wget or something similar to crawl an online journal database? What if I wanted to extract every single .pdf and have them placed neatly into sub-directories, organized by journal name?

Ashes of Time Redux: This was a "re-cut" and re-release of Wong Kar Wai's Ashes of Time. The music was distractingly horrendous but overall I thought it was excellent. It takes some of the compositions vaguely reminiscent of John Ford's shots of Monument Valley but everything is incredibly washed out. If you are a fan of WKW's nostalgic meditations on romance, betrayal, and regret, then you will like it. If you like violence, you will like it. If you like both, like me, you might really like it. Maybe this was the first real Chinese spaghetti western? Vicky Cristina Barcelona: Woody Allen's actors seem to have a mandate to act very badly and in VCB, there are moment…

Have a project to do for my final year in a computing degree, it can be pretty much anything so I've decided to try my hand at java programming for Android. I have an idea to create a simple interface which can send MIDI signals from the Phone via USB back to a DAW (Basically a clone of this http://createdigitalmusic.com/2009/06/android-midi-controller-musical-app-updates-with-midi-over-wifi/). I've been learning to program with Java for the last 3 years so I hopefully know enough to get by. Does anyone have any experience with MIDI programming on Android? Cheers!

New podcast: Interview with Rick Prelinger about home movies, alternative anthropology, lost landscapes and what he calls “archival anxiety syndrome” Link: http://bit.ly/PtTISd MP3: http://bit.ly/UoVIP4 Rick Prelinger is an archivist, writer and filmmaker who lives in San Francisco, California. Founder of the Prelinger Archives and the Prelinger Library, and board member of the Internet Archive, Rick has spent years rescuing, digitising and disseminating thousands of home movie reels. It's ironic nothing seems to have dissuaded their president's grip on power over the past decade, but once inflation sets in, there is no defense against it. You can't argue against hunger, as North Korea is learning. Will this economic pressure advance or relax the West's desire for military action? http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/03/world/middleeast/iran-president-mahmoud-ahmadinejad-ties-currency-drop-to-sanctions.html?_r=0

edit: the title is bad So the first one; I think it might have been Belgian. A small town police force is told that it is being closed down because there aren't any crimes. The police stage some crimes so they don't lose their jobs. It sounded funny. And the second one; Two guys, maybe dying or in wheelchairs, go on a road trip, I think with the intention of killing themselves and maybe somehow exacting revenge on whatever caused them to be in whatever state of disability it was. If these sound at all like films you might know then for god's sake pipe up
