I'm trying to get up and running with USB audio recording and have discovered that my current mixer, a Peavey PV-6, only supports stereo audio input to the computer over USB. What's a good, relatively cheap mixer that can output multiple tracks to a DAW over USB? I've been looking at the Alesis Multimix 8 USB 2.0, but the USB 2.0 version (with multiple USB tracks) seems very hard to get, and somewhat old now. Most sites listing USB mixers are very mum about the number of tracks sent to the computer via USB, and I would be pretty bummed to buy something only to find out it can't do what I need it to.

Hi! i love chopping samples from a whole range of sources; especially drums to make unique kits in ableton which I tend to do with drum racks. I'm looking for a more fun way of sequencing the samples though rather than playing them in via midi controller mpc style or/programming them. I think i just get a bit annoyed by having to use the Ableton piano roll etc even though I can get good results. i don't have any external sequencers or drum machines to load my samples into so im trying to do this in the daw. Sort of just wanting to be able to create weird little rhythms with built in unpredictability so I can sort of leave it going whilst I jam over th…

This has probably been around for quite a while, and it's Windows only, but I'd never heard of it before and it works great: https://www.bjoernbojahr.de/endlesswav.html Free, no installation or anything - just a single EXE file, and has a good UI and feature set.

Would any of you fine gents be able to suggest me some mixers? I've been through 2 so far - first was a Mackie DFX-12 which was nice but no usb, second was a Behringer UFX1604 which had the ability to record stems via USB However, my biggest gripe with it was that it would record the stems 'raw' and not listin to the 'live' physical fader mix, nor could it record the AUX sends Is this impossible or just comes at a higher price tag? Also would like more inputs than 16. Any ideas?! The finer and cheaper the better! Many thanks

I moved most of my music hardware setup away from my desktop, which I have always used for recording. It seemed like the computer was always a distraction as my job is from my computer. But now I need a way to record tracks to later work on in the DAW. I'm looking at Tascam Portastudios/Pocketstudio - the digital ones look like they would let me import individual tracks into my DAW later as wav files. I'm not looking for anything too fancy, just something to get the job done (right now I am using my DR-40). Anyone have any experience with these, or suggest something along these lines that might serve me better? On paper, these sound like they would do the trick, but …

Hi all.... So yep, got me new keyboard with sliders and knobs and all that. And yep, I can assign said sliders and knobs to different parameters in Reason, BUT....ah, shit, how do I even explain this. I'll try.... OK, so being able to assign my keyboard to Reason is awesome, but obviously when changing instrument, I need another patch of assigned controllers. For example, Fader 1 controls my Freq on my Subtractor, and when switching to my Monotone I want it to control the Osc Mix. What is doing my head properly in, is it's not a case of it does or it doesn't work - it sometimes does, and sometimes doesn't, and totally friggin randomly. So, I have sussed that…

So you probably know the MPC style playing a 4x4 grid of pads, each triggering a sample. I would like to set up the same thing, but instead of samples, I would trigger different loops/arpeggios. The idea is that it's way simpler to change parameters/sound/whatever/play a solo with one hand and alternate between different melodies by triggering the pads. Feels like it would be a really powerful thing if you're able to change the original sound itself instead of just mangling the sample. Off the top of my head, I could do something like this in Live by just setting up a bunch of clips (4 clips on 4 adjacent tracks) and setting the launch quantizations and whatnot so th…

I just downloaded it. Its good but it seems to change the pitch which is a bit annoying. Still sounds very decent. Anyone else bought it and if so what do you think? http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2019/10/17/looking-for-treble-klevgrand-introduces-knorr-bass-vitalizer/

I do not know if this is the right section to ask, I am sorry if it isn't I recently started using an all acces pass on digitale slate. It has many plugins which I already use. Now I saw on facebook an add for a simular service. I read a bit about it and it looks better. The main thing that I like a lot is that when a plugin would go out the bundle you get it for free for a life time with a life time license (even in case of bankrupcy of the company) I can not buy these kinds of plugins because they cost a lot of money... I also have no clue what to buy, I do not have any knowledge of these things so a sub is better since it also includes future plugins which will b…

Question borne out of curiosity and possibly boredom: Do folks here that use both hardware and software notice latency with their softsynths? It's been ages since I've actually gone hands on w/ hardware, but I always feel like there is something more immediate/direct than when using VST's - even as the time between keystroke and sound has shortened to what is arguably imperceptible limits. I don't know, it could be apophenia, but I still feel like there is . . . I don't know, some very small but real delay. Anyone have any actual numbers on this/science? Is there some threshold beyond which a human can't identify any delay? Welcoming real but also inane/snarky…

Hello With the next issue of my music zine I want to bundle with a 3" CD of short experimental electronic music tracks. A 3" disc comfortably holds 21 minutes of music, so I am hoping to fill this with around 7 to 10 tracks, or however it pans out. Music must be new and not currently featured commercially elsewhere. Artists will be fully credited - please supply me with short artist bio / photo / links / inspiration for the track (details as below...) Featured artists will receive a copy of the zine and disc. I will probably also start a bandcamp page allowing a download of the compilation for each zine reader, plus maybe some additional tracks th…
