So I'm about to take a cab out to take a lesson with one of Lenny Breau's old students and I'm freaking out a bit (in a good way) and I thought it'd be radbeans to have a thread for all things related to guitar... from playing them to looking at them to whatever. Here's some Lenny Breau stuff: (TL;DR = Lenny Breau was a guitar savant from Maine...he struggled with heroin addiction and died mysteriously and tragically...found floating in a pool with a belt around his neck...who knows what happened) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPmj30rKjqQ Here is one of my idols Kurt Rosenwinkel just taking the piss: and here is a clinic excerpt he…

watmmites, is any of you utilising the Black Art of stompboxes/guitar pedals/robots 'n lasers? are you using them exclusively in combination with guitars, or also with synths, samplers, your pc, and other audio stuffsels? ..if so, what are your favorites? any of you people into building your own pedals....? i'm asking because i'm gonna build a TS-808 (ibanez) style distortion pedal later this week.. i'll be following most of the original oldskool design, but i'm planning on doing a couple of modifications like making it do asymmetrical clipping (instead of symmetrical), getting rid of the (in)famous mid-range boost (for a deeper bass response and …

Anyhow I definitely recommend using I just started having a play with it last night and came up with this below!!! https://www.nilsschneider.de/wp/nils-k1v/

Yo yo yo! Sup sup! I’ve been really digging this new wave of amiga-based tracker producers that are creating old school jungle in the ways of the mid-90s masters. I’m inspired to get into it myself but I’m not super excited about having to hunt down, buy and plug in a ton of vintage amiga gear. I recently downloaded the v2.3d app with the hopes that it would be easy to learn. I’m understanding the concepts but having some difficulties. Any of y’all down with this in a way that you might be able to shed light on some ins and outs? Primarily, I’m curious if someone can point me to a resource or community where they discuss these things. Also, I’m curio…

So, I'm getting back to production after a long, long break (almost 10 years ) and since a lot of you are way more qualified than me in this domain there's a couple of Noob questions I want to ask, the main one being : what are the basics of mixing electronic drums ? Are you EQing every drum track before sending them in a drum bus ? When sending various drum tracks in reverb or delay bus how do you keep everything glued together ? What about the level of effect tracks ? what about compression ? Any help would be highly appreciated !

Okay so Live started to buffer tonight again. I thought I'd solved it by changing Windows to High Performance under Power Management but its buffering. I'm kinda cheesed off because the laptop I have is barely 1 year old (its an 8th Gen i5) and it can't handle Live with a handful of VSTs again. Rubbish. Please help guys. Thanks. ?

After recently rewiring my gear I noticed that the screen and leds on my Elektron analog drive regularly flash on even though the outlet that it’s on is switched off. I’ve got 2 wall sockets that each have an 8 way power strip connected to them, each strip is pretty much filled up with wall warts and such, one strip has another small 3 way strip connected to it that powers 2 pedals. In between the 8 way and 3 way strip I put one of those outlet switches so I can keep the pedals turned off when they’re not in use... First I thought it must be the switch but after swapping it for a different type and brand the same thing occurs. Could I this be the result of power surg…

Flexible Envelope Generators are one of my favorite modulation sources. Audio Damage's Continua is an example. Envelopes where you can add multiple breakpoints and set up loop start/stop breakpoints (then the envelope continues upon release). Kinda like the loop feature in old hardware samplers except you can add more points and shape the looping modulation to your preference. Clark's recent acoustic song where he said he hated VA oddly triggered this appreciation from me. I don't think there are any analog (or hardware, for that matter) synths I know of with an equivalent. Would be tricky to set it up to send a FEG via-MIDI CC as you'd have to keep adding new CC num…

So I had this Roland D110 sitting around for years but finally decided to take it out and have a play with it. Let me just say patches are pretty awful ???. However it was used by Drexciya amongst others so probably missing a lot of its benefits. I know it's has 6 separate outs. I will keep it definitely because I used it at school some 25 years ago however further insights would be welcome!! Cheers.

Just bought a roland d110 for 85 quid. Has a mostly crappy rompler section and a quite interesting 8 part multitimbral polysynth section along with built in drums. For the price and the drexciyan prestige it's worth the money. You can do whole songs on it. It has an envelope like an alpha juno, bit complex. It doesn't have PWM but it has square and sawtooth digital oscs and a digital lowpass filter.

Noob question, or not, regardless I'm still a Novice knob twiddler aspiring to become a Journeyman knob twiddler. I've always seemed to gravitate towards music that doesn't necessarily use 12 tone equal temperament and am discovering the limitations of attempting to write music that isn't 12 tone equal temperament with Midi. This has become even more evident with the purchase of an Analog synth last week. Using the synth, by itself, I have created some sequences and tuning that I'd love to be able to drive from Ableton so that I can either send additional notes to the oscillators on top of whatever it might be playing, or control it directly from the DAW. Many of the s…
