Prince (1958-2016)

ive been reading some articles and commentary on his death and it just stinks of opiate abuse. will be v. interested to see the tox come back.

-emergency landing for a narcan shot (you really would have to take alot of percocet for this to happen, and you'd probably have liver toxicity from the acetaminphen before you ODd on actually oxy which comes in a max strength of 10mg in these)

-4 trips to Walgreens pharm in the week preceding his death, seen to be "frail and nervous" and agitated while pacing outside (classic dopesickness)

-complaints of "flu" symptoms which signal to me dopesickness, as it's like a flu x 1,000.

-visit walgreens pharm 4 hours before returning to paisley park on night of death

Not to put too fine a point on it but everywhere I read everyone is like "BUT HE WAS A JW, DRUG FREE!".....yeah anyone that needs a narcan shot has seriously abused opiates and qualifies as an addict.

It does really suck because i've seen so many people get taken out by it. Especially a gifted guy like him. Suppose noone is immune.

rip

probably been mentioned itt already but i feel as though his strictness about having his music shared on the internet coupled with classic albums that suffer from dated mastering meant he was a little less well known and adored among the younger crowd (like millennials i guess). if there's one positive to come from his passing hopefully it will be those people discovering his music and realising just how talented and awesome he was, dude was a brilliant musical mind and absolutely a legend up there with the greatest of the greats.

I was bummed when he took his music off Spotify because that's how I was really listening to him, to be honest.

Machinedrum played here last night and threw down a remix of that "Purpole Music" track, with a footwork rhythm behind it.

I was good, I love that song, been on repeat.

Sign of the times though, that's the one In my book, very special album.

What are cool tracks besides the very very well know chart stuff?

Going to listen to the "Dump" songs but is there more? Listening to the LP discography made me realise Prince made a ton of very cheesy romantic ballads but I am looking for disco funk like the stuff the tuss / SYRO was inspired by

Get Dirty Mind (his best album IMHO, along with Purple Rain) and Controversy if you want that stripped down synthy-funk sound, his first two albums were more conventional r&b/funk (the self titled one is decent, haven't listened to his debut).

1999 is a classic track as well, as is Lady Cab Driver from the same album:

Sign of the Times is my all time favorite Prince album. Parade is a very close second. I'm still depressed about this. They were playing Prince videos on vh1 classic saturday night. I shed a few tears watching.

What's weird is that I was searching for Prince tapes on ebay the night before his death. Within the hour of the reports of his death, an ex girlfriend PMed me on FB and told me I'm the first person she thought about when she heard the news. We made sweet love back in the day to the 1999 record.
