Material Object and Phonaut - Indiana Drones

Following the untimely passing of Pete Namlook and in turn, the legendary ambient label, FAX +49-69/450464, Dave, who runs the Ear-Rational.com webshop that many US customers here are familiar with, is starting a new label, Carpe Sonum, to continue FAX's sublabel, which was home to many great ambient artists from Tetsu Inoue to Atom Heart. The first release on Carpe Sonum will be fancy and highly collectable 4CD box tribute release to Pete Namlook but it is still in the works. In the meantime, Dave wants to start things by releasing what was next in the pipeline for the FAX label, Indiana Drones. you can listen to it on bandcamp http://materialobject.bandcamp.com/a…

From his twitter: https://twitter.com/...622992950575104 Mark Van Hoen @Mark_Van_Hoen New Locust album, just finished! No definitive release date, but judging from the following interview conducted earlier in the year, it should be out this year. http://madelikeatree...5-Mark-Van-Hoen " I ask because while you have quite the respectable discography, your most recent The Revenant Diary (Editions Mego) has surely garnered you recent some attention, and must have opened to doors to putting you on some good bookings as of late. Thanks, yes the record's gone very well, and yes some new doors have I think been opened for some new listeners. I had a very quiet decade in…

Anyone else on WATMM into Nalepa? I enjoyed the Flatlands LP quite a bit when it was released. His new EP is also quite good, downtempo glitchy lushness...

"The content of 'Proper Headshrinker' was first presented in public as part of the group exhibition 'Recurrence, repetition, hypnosis and ritual', curated by Paul Purgas at Färgfabriken, Stockholm, 6/12/12 – 13/01/13. In the show, right next to the speakers playing these tracks, the sentence "Like a balloon producing balloons, producing balloons" was printed on the wall in Pantone 805 fluorescent red, the same colour used on the cover of the album. As it turns out, the title of the exhibition almost feels like the perfect tagline for "Proper Headshrinker". The ten tracks in the album are unlikely techno anthems, stripped down hoovers, and deformed supersaws driven by extr…

Demdike Stare - Something Special
by Guest primusluta- 11 replies

It's been over a year since we last heard any new material from Demdike Stare, and there are rumbles of renewed studio activity somewhere in the not-too-distant horizon. In the meantime, Demdike finally present theIr third mix, and their first released on tape. Shifting 'The Weight Of Culture' to a ferric format feels apt for their anachronistic tendencies, shrouding the crackle of expensive and often battered wax with the hum of their machines to suitably gauzy effect. As expected, they've dug ever deeper into the nooks of their archive, pairing obscure NDW diamonds with looped electronics and inverted jazz modes, traversing dimensions between kosmic flutes and terrest…

The Flaming Lips have announced their 15th studio album, tentatively titled The Terror. Describing it as "possibly the best Flaming Lips record ever made", Wayne Coyne revealed that the LP's sombre tone has been coloured by band member Steven Drozd's recent battle with substance abuse. "It was probably the worst time of [steven's] life," Coyne told Rolling Stone. "He was in a bad way." This is the first time the Flaming Lips have hinted at the reason for Drozd's sudden hospitalisation in 2010, which forced them to cancel two concerts. "I had to do this and I'm getting it together," Drozd tweeted at the time. It now seems the 43-year-old, who quit heroin in 2001, was once…

Jenny Hval - Innocence Is Kinky

New album from the talented Norwegian. Really compelling, strange and well-crafted. Includes everything from intense spoken word and beautiful melodic passages to atonal rock, plus noise and drone elements. Very interesting production and incredible lyrics. A fantastic album, I think. Here is one of the album's more accessible moments: http://soundcloud.com/forcedexposurepublicity/jenny-hval-mephisto-in-the/s-9yOaZ

Former Labradford member Mark Nelson has kept sporadically busy with the textural electronic explorations of his Pan•American project. The latest release is called Cloud Room, Glass Room and sees further evolution from the Pan•American camp. For one thing, percussionist Steven Hess is now a full-time member in the group, and the release also sees Labradford collaborator Bobby Donne playing bass on multiple tracks. A press release explains that we can still expect more of Nelson's mind-expanding production, however: Mark Nelson's deft production touches abound, subtly mixing disparate elements into a fully integrated whole, while Hess prominently displays a myriad of pe…
