Classical Keyboard Music
by Guest Backson- 1 reply
I love old keyboards - pianos, organs, harmoniums, mallet and bell instruments (if they count) and so forth - and I love dark and grand classical music. I was wondering if there was composer who wrote this sort of music mainly for different keyboards. Or if there was some kind of an organ quartet or something that performed well known works. or a really good dark soundtrack or something. its pretty broad, but you get where I coming from. is there anything along these lines that would interest me? preferably in minor.

Lets make a thread about, in your opinion, what is the best, or the top 5 best electronic (idm/ambient/trip hop/trance, etc) albums of all time? I can't think right now so I'm going to sleep, but I thought it would be interesting to see people's choices, and this way gives others a chance to get into some really good albums. So let the listing begin!!

squarepusher IDM Island
by Guest Sumguy21- 18 replies
- 1.6k views
Some of the most prominent figures in the IDM music scene are stranded on an island and are forced to fend for themselves. The inhabitants are as follows: 1. Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) 2. Tom Jenkinson (Squarepusher) 3. Rob Brown and Sean Booth (Autechre) The island is plentiful in coconuts which, while not providing enough nutrition to sustain a person indefinitely, will be sufficient to live off of for several months. It will be difficult to find any other means of nutrition, though there have been sightings of rodents and other small mammals on the island. There is little to no fresh water and drinking sea water will be fatal, it should be a priority f…

is it just me, or are the number of Dilla references/comparisons getting a little out of hand every time a new hip-hop production comes out? I've seen so many comments that an album or artist is "Dilla-esque" or "post-Dilla" that I don't really understand what it means anymore. If I had to describe Dilla's sound, it would be the use of recognizable samples (not going out of his way to obscure them) juxtaposed with some really extreme sample like a siren or something (think Gobstoppers). Maybe I'm wrong. but every album that has beats and samples now is being compared to Dilla. Dilla was great, but he certainly wasn't the first or the only producer to use beats …

his stuff falls in an odd place in between bop and free jazz. too weird for bop, too conventional for free jazz. he was probably the first to rape a flute using extended technique. and he soloed using twelve-tone technique a lot of the time eric dolphy is idm. my favourite dolphy tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmT1-tdSaaM eric tearing chunks out of the audience live http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKDAbp9m5yw eric on the flute (this is a MONSTROUS track anyway. coltrane on soprano sax stretches the theme into fucking incredible awesome interesting shapes) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_n-gRS_wdI

Goddamn. No matter how many times I hear this piece, (and i mean the original take released in 1960), I am constantly amazed. I know A Love Supreme is outstanding, but the emotional impact of Giant Steps just kills me.

protection is really very similar to the classic model of a country song in some ways, anyone else get this feeling? like dolly parton could sing it or something, but obviously with a different, countrier arrangement & instrumentation

This thread is dedicated to the sharing of links to instrumental versions of rap albums and songs (as opposed to beat albums). If something out there is available for purchase (i.e. Slum Village's Fantastic 2.10), please don't post a link to freely downloadable copy. This is only for rap instrumentals that can't be found through commercial means. I've already noted that instrumental versions of nearly every Beastie Boys track (various producers) can be found here: http://www.beastiemixes.com/acappellas.php (at the bottom) Additionally, instrumental versions of more than 40 Gang Starr tracks (produced by DJ Premier) can be found here: http://www.hiphopisread.com/…
