Oblivion, two attempts, one of which I was lucid during. Fell asleep both times though so I only saw the first half so far. I know this is a terrible way to watch movies.

Anyway, the world and design are super-neat. I really liked the feeling of post-apocalyptic Earth and the ultra-weird sky-condo. But the plot and characters seem to fall pretty flat unfortunately.

That sky lounge and the art direction of looking out over the clouds was worth the price of admission. Weak otherwise. The clone thing has been done, etc.

Still, Tom Cruise continues to satisfy considering the material he is given.

guess i'll post this in here:

hobbit part 2

really good. i can't remember a more drastic difference between a first and second part of a trilogy, other than the fall off from the matrix to reloaded. effects were mostly amazing, 3d was utilized well, even the 48 fps didn't bother me. the world felt more lived in and authentic than the one presented in the first part. actually, it seemed more lived in than most of the lotr stuff as well, with maybe the exception of stuff in rohan. i still don't really buy freeman as bilbo, there's an emotional center that's lacking. i feel like he's going through the motions, whereas i bought elijah wood's pain as frodo. other than that, i don't really have any problems with this film.

feelin a strong 8 to a light 9 on this one

That was JGL's directorial debut, which has me worried for Sandman

anchorman 2

first half had me rolling. "a black man follows me around when it's sunny". second was kind of shit. kanye west shows up and my eyes just about rolled out of my head. probably worth a matinee price, wouldn't suggest going for the hfr imax showings though.

Pootie Tang - as a complete film its pretty shitty but for a comedy it's pure sillyness gives it a LOL/10

Don Jon - feature length Pornhub.com advert

Three Extremes - Three very twisted perfectly executed shorts from Hong Kong, Korea and Japans finest. 10/10

Riddick - If you like the Riddick then this is a pretty entertaining watch but the film is pretty much ruined by the cut and shut ending 6.5/10

The Hobbit 2

Leaps and bounds better than the first. The bits with Smaug were fucking great. I was a bit worried that they wouldn't pull it of, but it was (for me) the most interesting part of the film. I still don't like the guy they have playing Thorin, and Freeman is still unconvincing as Bilbo.

The first part of the film, in The Prancing Pony, was a bit odd. I almost felt like it was an SNL skit. Something to do with the strange TV set like quality of the film, mixed with the hokey mannerisms of the actors. The barrel scene was over the top, but I actually really enjoyed it. I think that had less to do with the action and more to do with how it was shot, really disorientating. I was also curious how well they would pull off the talking spiders, and the ring mechanic was great. The same goes for when Bilbo put on the ring when he was under the mountain, around Smaug, and golden aura of the dragon that was everywhere inside of the ring "world".

All in all, very enjoyable. It wasn't nearly as painful to sit through for 3 hours as the first one. I am still unconvinced by 3D, though. This most likely has to do with the fact that I wear glasses, and have to put the 3D glasses over my prescription glasses.

The Worlds End.

Really enjoyed it, but aside from two or three bits it wasn't funny at all really.

Dead Man's Shoes

Fantastic. Always been aware of Paddy Considine but never checked out any of his leading role stuff. I'm usually a bit critical of English films that seem to amp up the glumness of the setting, also as I was raised for a while in Yorkshire the setting kind of gets under my skin. That low budget handycam grimy (lazy) approach bothers me a lot but it really works well for this film. Gripping from beginning to end with several moments that I kept thinking about when the film was over. Specifically the "You're not afraid of me are you" scene.

The Change Up 7/10 some really funny lines but much of the plot was pretty sloppy in that 80s movie kind of way. some of it was very cheesy

Tyrannosaur 8.5/10 really good, nicely shot and well written. i really thought Olivia Coleman was great in this. nice surprise ending too.

Cloud Atlas 5/10 this film is so bad, really confused and all over the shop plotwise, pretty uninspiring casting and production design.

Seeking a Friend for the end of the World 6/10 blllleeeeuuuuuuuuurrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! why, just why.

Yeah I enjoyed this. Wonder why Paddy considine hasn't started on this next film. This was amazing for a debut feature.

L'écume des jours - this is probably Michel Gondry at his most obnoxious. Everything is turned up to 11 for the duration of the film. Some if it is great, too much just falls flat. There's so much stuff being thrown at the screen that you kind of stick it out to see what he comes up with next. Or maybe you don't, a lot of people up and left during the screening. Do not watch unless you're a big fan of his style. Michel GondryX100000

edit: I liked it.

Beyond the Black Rainbow - BoC/10

One hell of a trip when watching drunk. Associations I got with it: Kubrick style, 1984 the movie from the same year, Huxley, Burroughs, John Carpenter, Legowelt soundtracks and: BoC. I'd like to know watmm's opinion on this movie as I have to rewatch this a lot of times and let it sink in. Both audio + visual design were absolutely amazing.

+ fucking Venom in the soundtrack. WTF.

Her2013Poster.jpg

didn't really like this. it's like that episode of star trek the next generation when a woman falls in love with data except this time- you spend the entire time watching joaquin phoenix fall in love with his phone (actually, it's an os but he carries it around a thing that looks like a smart phone).

also, all the males wear these corduroy pants up to their stomach like their in the 50s

6/10
