ok this is me doing a troon thread. Just curious what people think of this saying. Seems to me it seems like one of the more untrue ones. Another would be "whatever doesn't kill me, makes me stronger". How do people interpret it? Any other weird sayings out there?

Hey guys, I'd like those of you with experience on one or more music subscription services to chime in. I'm definitely not going to buy all of my music again through some iTunes clone, but instead of hosting it myself and paying for power and bandwidth, it seems intelligent to just use one of these new-fangled subscription services. That is, so long as they have everything I have and a lot more. Which music subscription services have all the music you've wanted to hear? If none, then which come the closest? Thanks!

Ok guys, there's so many of you here that are in visual art that you could know something on this topic. I'm developing a signature, or a stamp for my abstract paintings. Now I never wanted one, but now it seems I will in order to sell some. I was thinking of either making a mini gesture on each painting like a scribble we sign papers with OR a stamp like the chinese have used for ages. Do you know of any good specimens of artist signatures? Thanksy

considering the popularity of 'pictures you took that you're pleased with' and 'post your most recent artwork', i was thinking a subforum for this stuff inside genbant like the football one mightn't be a bad idea. we could split stuff into topics like nature photography, abstract, 3d renders, photomanipulation, architecture, HDR images, that sort of stuff! what say ye?

Scientists at Minneapolis’ Orfield Labs created their own soundless room, an anechoic chamber. Their studies have found that when putting subjects within the chamber, they begin to hallucinate within 30 minutes. With an average quiet room having a sound level of 30 decibels, the anechoic chamber’s sound level is -9 decibels. The ceiling, floor, and walls of the chamber absorb sound rather than have it bounce off as normal objects do. The chamber is so quiet that the subjects can even hear their own organs functioning. Although extremely interesting, the experience is rather unpleasant. Not one subject has spent more than 45 minutes in the chamber alone. Leaving a pe…

Anyone here have some IDMs playing at their wedding? Apparently, a certain percentage of the music at our wedding will have to be of a genre I'm not into much, to appease the fiance's family. So, I figure if I have to listen to shit I don't like they can stand listening to some Jega or whatever. What DJ I'll find to play this weird mish-mash of shit I have no idea. Anyway, anyone have any stories of hearing IDM at a wedding or trying to get some played at your own?

Not sure if this is already being discussed, but what are WATMM's thoughts on Adobe's move from owning its software to a new cloud-based system that incurs a monthly (and imo overpriced) subscription fee?

i want to do something to my signature but don't have photoshop on this netbook peice of shit, and wouldn't know how to do this in ms paint, so can someone here place this sunset picture (http://i.imgur.com/QRwLZ9k.jpg) outside the windows of my sign? scaled down so it is proportional to the subjects in the picture, of course. if not, simply explain how to do this using ms paint as it'd be cool to do this more often. thanks watmm

Anyone else watch this on PBS as a kid? Made me way ahead of the rest of my class in math up until about 7th or 8th grade. It was a kids learning program in the 80's and maybe early 90s designed to teach kids about algebra, Roman numerals, the concept/implications of infinity, and even had a rap song about Archimedes and Pythagoras! They had a ton of different "skits". My favorite by far was "Mathnet", a clear play on the classic TV show Dragnet. I finally found my favorite episode as a kid: Another popular one was "Mathman" a play on Pacman, where the main character was inside an arcade game trying to eat the right prime number, or else he'd …

I'll put this extremely simple: I'm actually interested in software engineering (programming). But, like all engineerings, I need to know and understand a shit ton of math and alikes. I'm not dumb, but I really, really hate math, and all other sicenes like that. It's not because I'm stupid or something, it's because I just simply can't understand it and I'm somehow lazy to do it.. At school, my fucking teacher just tells us about how to do it, but I bet it would be so fucking easier if he actually makes us understand why certain process can solve a certain problem. Actually, the only reason why I have good grades in math is because I memorize the process to solve some…

Slavoj Žižek 1 2 3

A captivating individual. I have watched 'Žižek!' the film which is where I started, and from there onto lectures, interviews and 'The Perverts Guide To Cinema' which was enjoyable. He sometimes seems a bit inconsistent but you can't really beat the guy for provocing thought. His ticks and mannerisms are spectacular, like a malfunctioning philosophy droid. Whether or not you agree with him, you kind of have to love the guy, i mean...look at him. I have absolutely no idea how to embed youtube videos anymore and I'm too old and tired to figure it out so here's a little list to get people started: http://youtu.be/eJ0LoiShvOs If anyone can recc…

Marvel Cinematic Universe
by Guest abusivegeorge- 3 replies

I've been researching recently into the latest Marvel comics movies and learnt something very interesting. Marvel Cinematic Universe is a relatively new franchise and they have only been going since 2007 with their first movie release in 2008 (Iron Man). This franchise has the comic book creators at the heart and they expressed distain at the X-men and Spiderman movies in particular being unhappy that they did not follow the Comic books close enough. One particular relationship being that between Gambit and Rogue who are desperately in love but cannot have a physical relationship due to Rogues mutation. They've only produced and released 7 movies the most recent being Iro…
