I've mentioned this before, and a certain Site Administrator indicated we should probably revisit the topic some time after TH has been released, so I think this is a fair time to re-introduce this idea: So far, the LPs have each had a distinct tone that could possibly be attributed to an element: MHTRTC - Air (sounds play out as if at a distance and melodies like dust motes) Geogaddi - Fire (reduced use of reverb, claustrophobic, dry tones, crackling sounds) TCH - Water (more polished production/wet or clean sound, juxtaposed with some sounds I would say seem "water-damaged", drums in Dayvan Cowboy sound like a rhythmic representation of waves) TH - Earth (I had kin…

I can never get enough of BoC's quality and original sound, but are there any other artists that are similar? I've been trying to find some and failed to discover what I was looking for.

20 years young. I remember discovering MHTRTC (and Boards of Canada) through a tiny album review in the NME of all places, the week before release back in April 1998. It described an album awash with pleasing melodies and nostalgic childhood sounds, like it had sampled dated old science/nature documentaries you might have watched at school. A few days later I was in town, and found myself in one of my favourite indie record shops at the time (Imperial Records RIP). They had the CD hooked up to the number 1 spot on the listening post (remember those?) which was their way of saying 'best record of the week'. I must have enjoyed it right away, as I still have my CD copy from…

Stumbled across an article from 2013 on the National Film Board of Canada's blog about Boards of Canada: https://blog.nfb.ca/blog/2013/09/23/music-has-the-right-to-children-sound/

The last few minutes of Happy Cycling (6:26 onwards) from Music Has The Right To Children... pure bliss, and perfect music for a cool fall day: MHTRTC is easily one of the best records of the 20th century.

A few (11) years ago, I created and posted a video for Pete Standing Alone that has become pretty popular, currently at over 300k views. It's already quite an honor to have my video be so popular and have it be a part (even a small part) of BOC content that people view online. But if that weren't enough, yesterday I received the following comment on the video: How cool to think that Pete Standing Alone himself might have a chance to view the video and have thoughts about it. Incredible. I hope he watches it and I wonder what he might think. Either way, I am honored.

Had an idea to do this ages ago, after listening to Nlogax and it making me think Freddie's acapella from Another One Bites The Dust would fit on top nicely... Finally got around to it a couple of weeks ago. The results were inconclusive. https://soundcloud.com/ravedamage/another-boc-bites-the-dust

My company got asked by Joyful Noise Recordings and WHY? to make this official music video for their BoC remix of Good Friday which is featured in their new Deluxe 10 Year Anniversary Reissue of Alopecia. It was a lot of fun!

80s aesthetic synths produced at a time later than the 80s, samples of 80s tracks downpitched, samples of commercials showcasing American consumerism, seems like vaporwave to me predating anything from the 2010s vaporwave era. If this were released today people would call it vaporwave is all I'm saying, and a top vaporwave album of all time at that

Boards of Canada Christ. vs Boards of Canada 1 2 3 4

So what do you think? If you're familiar with Christ.'s music, how do you rate it compared to BoC's? In my view, he's really, really good. I don't know how much he was involved in the band - was he really one third for several years, or just one of the many associates. I think his influence is present on Twoism a lot - it's a very unusual record for them, as if he was partially the reason to leave the record minimal, without happy swirly synths and children voices. Quite similar to an early track by Christ. - Moxley Moy - kind of mood. On Campfire, Slow This Bird Down uses darker synths, like those on Christ.'s Metamorphic Reproduction Miracle. Personally, I prefer t…

It feels to me that Geogaddi gets the most praise here. Music has the Right is the defining album of BoC in my ears. Maybe it's my age, I just don't know... I get the fucking JUICE from this record, and I have been getting it since 1998. Just sit and listen to it. By the time you're halfway through, and Aquarius hits, don't you feel sexy? Geogaddi has brilliant moments. Great record and all, but where's the love for MHTRTC? Granted, I'm sure you all love it. And I'm pandering for the love, but what gives? The album is just unimaginable. It has soul that I just can't explain. Can anyone tell me how this isn't the high water mark for them? Fucking please. The…

so I wasn't digging it at all upon first reveal. mainly because of the layout, with the bold type all the way at the top and the skyline all the way at the bottom, your eye is drawn to the blank space in the middle but it feels awkward. I like the rftd art infinitely more. but now having heard it several times, not only do I still not like it, i don't think it fits the music really. it feels so separate than any of the art from the art cards, the video teasers, the rftd video, etc. it just doesn't feel right to me (yet?) anyone else?
