i thought it was great. zombieland too. i saw none of them stoned. if you can't appreciate campy zombie comedies i think you should stop watching them. what were you expecting, really?

 

zombieland was shit too, apart from the well made (but rather dumb) intro montage. The ending in the amusement part descended into utter tedium. I guess Bill Murray was a highlight, but apart from that...

do the right thing - great movie, but fucking racist. i mean i know spike lee is kinda messed up with his black pride agenda, but this is just fucking wrong. that malcolm x quote at the end, what the fuck. i hate to love movies i disagree with. but the arisng tension was amazing.

Coraline: I wasn't really impressed with the story... somehow shallow, in my opinion. The rest of it is amazing (the animation/visuals/whatever, music)... 7.5/10 and one of my favorites. And still can't surpass Selick's masterpiece Nightmare Before Christmas.

 

Tekkon Kinkreet Yeah, I've just watched it, and it was really, really good. Amazing visuals, interesting story and, of course, mesmerizing music ;) 8.9/10

empire records - what a piece of shit of a movie,jesus christ. everyone in it is annoying and stupid. and why the fuck are they even employed. i would fire them on the spot the moment they would start to crank loud music and dance. and the suicidal girl doesn't even know how to cut her wrists properly. way to cash in on the generation x. fuck this movie.

Friday - first time watching it for some reason, ok I know this has some cult status but it's really a dull film, with only a few funny moments. Don't care enough to give it a score...

 

Snow White and the Huntsman - Ok, this is more like it, great visual style on this one. Too bad it suffers from pacing issues, and...Kristen Stewart. This is actually the only film I've seen her in since Panic Room...wait that's a lie, I guess she was in Into The Wild, but I don't really remember her. In any case, she's pretty bad. She always has a queasy look on her face. She also doesn't seem to connect to anyone else in the film, she doesn't seem to react to anyone, but is always staring off dreamily, or with that uncomfortable look on her face. She also gave me quite a lesbian vibe, which may say more about me than it does about her, but in any case it doesn't seem to mesh with her being a desirable princess in the bloom of youth; Instead she seems cold, strained, and standoffish, with zero chemistry with the male leads.

 

That said, the film is certainly worth watching for the sets, visual effects, and Charlize Theron biting off huge mouthfuls of scenery. They captured that grimy Medieval feel better than most historical epics. I didn't like using established actors as the dwarves instead of real little people. 7/10 overall I guess, but an 8.5/10 for anyone interested in visual effects, concept design, sets, costumes...

rewatched Magnolia 10 years after I first saw and loved. and I didnt love it this time. Maybe it was the 3 hour cut (or me being 10 years older) but the crushing sadness outweighed the humour on a scale I did not remember. I think mostly this is because in my early 20's I still felt immortal whereas now I feel like a bag of cancer. I doubt I will ever watch it again. One thing I realized was how great julianne moore was back then. and how odd to see patton oswalt as the scuba diver/casino dealer. tom cruise was at his peak here I would say too. it just all felt so damn heavy. reconfirmed my love of punchdrunk love despite it not being as deep a movie.

 

I also rewatched manhatten in hollywood cemetary which was still great despite the feminists behind me complaining about the female characters. the darkness of the outdoor movie projection really worked on this as it increase the contrast and made it look incredible

Rad this is like an american sequel to BMX bandits but more over the top I guess, it was fun/dumb and there was one super terrible special effects shot that would have made sitting through this worth it even if I didn't enjoy it 5/10

 

Moving Violations this was ok, worth watching for that quirky 80's comedy with likable characters vibe/10

Badlands - 8/10. Not a huge Malick fan, mostly because of the voiceovers, but enjoyed this. More straightforward fair. Very charming performance from Martin Sheen.

 

Fearless - 6.5/10. Not nearly as good as some of Weir's other films but it has its moments.

 

Snow White and the Huntsman - 2/10. Those points are only for the excellent sets and visual effects. This is probably one of the worst scripts I've ever seen. I felt bad for some of the veteran actors who were given such cringeworthy dialogue. Charlize Theron (who I normally like) was awful. I realize she was going for over-the-top but this was just too much. Maybe it was how bad her dialogue was, but I couldn't stop laughing at everything she said. I won't get into Kristin Stewart's performance because everyone already knows how bad she is, but I have to point out the last scene of the movie. Everyone is yelling, "Hail to the Queen!" and the movie keeps cutting back to Stewart over and over as if she needs to say something, but she's just standing there breathing heavily. I died laughing. The most Kristin Stewart moment Kristin Stewart has ever had.

 

Jaws - 9/10. A classic.

Yeah I guess it was the dialogue...something was just off in the interpersonal scenes, especially among the dwarves, who unlike their Disney counterparts, weren't grumpy or jolly or anything other than bland (instead of listening to them I spent my time trying to play "spot the celebrity dwarf").

I think the interpersonal relationships between the characters were stunted because everyone was wincing at the dialogue they had to deliver.

 

It literally made me cringe at some of the dialogue Bob Hoskins had to deliver in this movie, especially considering he has Parkinsons and won't be doing any more movies.

Make up your own mind man. I really enjoy it. It is campy to me now.

 

Some great sci fi moments though.
