I watched The Crow, Stalker and Ghost World.

Stalker I'll have to watch a few more times to understand, the sound effects were very evocative - I kept having the feeling that this is an adult version of when as a kid you'd go off exploring somewhere (a cave or a wood) and as you go you make up a story about the place you're in and you feel like you're on an adventure.

Ghost World was very relateable.

The Crow I used to have on VHS - it's a stupid film for several reasons, but maybe even bad stuff can inspire you - not sure quite how this film could, but it's possible. One or two moments were interesting - when t-bird was saying 'this is the really real world, there aint no coming back' etc. How pitiable the bad guy's half sister was occasionally - 'I like the pretty lights' etc.

even with roger deakins shooting this it was tedious as hell. i guess it was supposed to be deliberate and stately and instead it just became very boring. no real tension, predictable "twist". i was really hoping when around half way through the film gyllenhaal's character finds a man keeping a body in his basement and says "i spent six years at that place" referring to some boy's school or halfway house or something, i was hoping this would lead to a conspiracy against his character ending in a wicker man finale where gyllenhaal finds out the child abductions were done to bring him to a place where this cult could murder him. when i'm creating alternate endings a movie is boring the fuck out of me. maybe...6/10 for deakins cinematography, 4/10 for overwrought, on the nose storytelling and acting.

Ted 2/10 - fucking awful.

Nightmare on Elm Street 2 - 7/10 absolutely full of gay innuendo, lulz galore.

Bed Knobs and Broom Sticks - 8/10 classic Disney.

Squalor Motel - 5/10 badly made 1985 porn, still funny.

...and justice for all - it's really bad actually, it's like a severely coked up judicial drama, it's dumb, loud and the script is just ridiculous. the scarface of judicial dramas, hah. comparing this to serpico whose theme is somewhat similar is just painful.

cop land

i dunno, i just can't take stallone seriously in this role. it's like he went for semi retarded or something.

hehe, right although i think his character was meant to be precisely what he achieved with it; muscle-bound, sensitive, simple-minded small town cop and so forth. even though he was not entirely perfect; when set against the a-list, stallone preformed at a level we've never really seen from him before. think of the pressure, knowing many would judge you so sternly against such gifted actors such as keitel, liotta and de niro. i love the film and i think stallone's dim, somewhat vulnerable character adds the vital angst needed to allow other characters to acheive their dominance; which is an essential tone in the film.

Fast & Furious 6 - well edited and choreographed action sequences that surprisingly beats most other action failings this year but expect the usual cheese, boring none car bits and silly ott moments. I preferred the finale to Fast5 but this is still watchable mindless fun 6.3/10

pretty much, easily Stallone's best role. The finale of the movie is extremely satisfying. The scene where he refuses to let go of the guy when handing him over to Deniro's was a powerful emotional moment i thought. Deniro also gives probably his last quality performance, acting like a jaded 70s detective, 'YOU BLEW IT'

I also think janeane garofalo was good in it, she's underrated in dramatic roles *runs*

I tried watching After Earth, but I couldn't take it. It's like a film made by aliens trying to imitate human behaviour, something is just off by the whole thing. I felt like I was watching a film from a parallel dimension where evil lurks. Anyway... if you've ever needed proof that lizard people do exist, this is the one to watch.

insidious, chapter 2

i forgot what happened in the last movie, so this was confusing as hell. i honestly had no idea what was going on. it seemed like it was written by a teenage esl student. there's a part where a woman gets in an elevator with an old man, they go down a level, the man gets off, the woman goes to the front desk of the hospital and tells the nurse on duty that the old man should be in bed, and the nurse, wide eyed, goes "but that's not possible, he died last night". that's as scary as this thing gets folks.
