28 Weeks Later. I remember being really pissed off seeing this in theatres for the first time because it was such a mediocre followup to what is probably one of my favourite movies. rewatching it, my opinion hasn't improved. it still lacks all the finesse and quality of its predecessor, basically just milks it and waters it down. I particularly dislike the excessively shaky camerawork and confused action sequences. and that track from the 28 Weeks Later soundtrack gets re-used like 300 times here.

edit: oh yeah, and there is this absolutely ridiculous slow screenwipe effect used in one instance which is truly baffling, if you've seen it you know what I mean.

after-life-1.jpg

I watched After Life (written and directed by Hirokazu Koreeda) a few weeks ago and have been meaning to post about it.

I think this is easily one of, if not the best film I've ever watched. It's wonderfully relaxing and ambient, it has a great premise, is visually beautiful and gives you something to think and talk about after it's all done.

All Dogs Go To Heaven -- Dog mobsters break out of death row, murder, steal, cheat, gamble, drink heavily, build a casino, kidnap & exploit children, have apocalyptic visions of hell, and sing songs about sharing pizza. 10/10

I tried watching Jupiter ascending, but after an hour and a half I couldn't ignore the desperate cries of pain coming from my brain anymore. It's much much worse than I feared.

Fuck you piece of junk/10

this movie blew me away. i've seen the remake a few times and always felt it was somewhat silly, but this film really does the story justice.

there is a genuinely creepy element when the entire village goes unconscious and the parents reacting to the pregnancy further escalates the tension. also i like the treatment which perfectly balances this is a serious situation with some occasional humor- something i felt the remake never had.

oh and barbara shelley's figure is perfection gawd-damn!!!

Never seen the remake, but thought the original was plenty silly already. It's pretty cool though yeah.

Exorcist III - oldy olson(pre-conan) flashes his shameless old tits to his nurse/5.

There's something I really liked about Exorcist 3. The ending is completely off the rails. But I rather like the rest. Haven't seen it in ages though.

yeah, i had fun with it. the sound, lighting and general atmosphere are awesomely creepy in parts. decided to check it out after hearing jay bauman from rlm mention how crazy the movie is(fabio & patrick ewing are angels, george c scott, garden shears, ect). the only thing that kind of annoyed me is how they tried to slip way to many jokes into the dialog in the beginning. now i'm really looking forward to watching the ninth configuration. it's been waiting on my computer with from beyond and society on wattm's respectable recommendation.

The ninth configuration is way better, definitely worth checking out.
