Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

LOL, no my post was actual surface level reality. I joined a golf club yesterday and I am now a poor white man eating bread and drinking cider

Also, did a bit of looking at some of Niles work with Chic yesterday. i want a song with Chic's sweet ass bassline intro for 'Everybody Dance' running all the way through duration of the track.

The Giorgio Moroder track was such a wasted opportunity. To have him give a voice over like that is just, well, shit.

Must do better, robots

I hear you, but even if he could have contributed more, I like his track the way it is now. The first two tracks are different from earlier Daft Punk but pretty tame. But by the time Moroder has finished talking about music without preconceptions and the track has gone into a string interlude, drum break cum hi-hat porn and finally practically shred guitar, all bets are clearly off for the rest of the album. After that, I wasn't even surprised anymore when Touch happened.

I'm enjoying the album.
To me it sounds like they have chosen the samples they wanted, then enlisted the artists that either did those original songs or played them themselves. It's sampling without the sampler. Kinda paying respects to the old skool :)
The production on the album is really good, even when pegged, doesn't have that horrid digital sound that most of todays shit comes with as part of the package.

Music goes in cycles....disco is due a come back :)

I never thought by 'sampled' they actually meant using the entire intro to a song:

It's an awesome intro, but pretty ridiculous to blatantly use it in essentially the same context.

It's an old unfinished Together track. Bangalter and Falcon's "Together" tracks were all about endless repetition of one or two samples, even more than Daft Punk or even Bangalter solo. I've always heard that Call On Me was originally a Together idea too, before (the people behind) Eric Prydz got Steve Winwood to re-record the sampled bit of "Valerie" and officialy released that version.

i'm completely, hopelessly in love with this album

it's exactly what i expected it to be, and apart from the panda track, it's full of lovely vibes

(the album in my avatar is lovelier though)

Well yeah, Daft Punk are talentless hacks who either have to steal er.. 'sample' entire passages or hire actual musicians.

I think talentless hacks is going a bit far.

All evidence suggests otherwise.

i'm pretty sure this album is going to be terrible. human after all and the tron soundtrack were both lackluster, boring. the only good output they've had recently was their live album, which was amazing. i don't think they can pull off another homework or discovery though.

edit: i obviously hope that they do though.

called it.

Indifferent to Daft Punk and this new one didn't sway me one way or another. Neatly produced, some cheese and some catchy stuff, but that's it. Never really got the DP hype, but that filter house sound never really got to me.

i will say that for how much i dislike the album it's definitely not just a run of the mill shitty electronica money grab move. The album sounds so cheesy and dated (like straight out the 70s but with a 2mil budget) that I'm really surprised they would make a move like this with such a large fanbase. I mean sure it has vocoders and stuff and it's disco but it's far less mainstream sounding than i would have expected out of basically a Vegas act Blueman group-esque Americanized French house act.
