Recently discovered a whole load of iPhone using instagram posting photographers who put up impossibly good shots almost daily, that go back years. I only found them through the fact that one tested out the new Google Glass.

They make me envious because other than the fact they post up masterpieces the likes of which are way beyond me they're able to get very close candid shots of people on a really consistent basis, i don't know if the iPhone enables that if you just pretend to be playing around on your phone as you hold it or whether it's clear to people that you're aiming to take a shot. But you can kind of just hold it and play with it and look like you're waiting for something/someone and blend in as you wait for a moment.

I'm pretty pleb when it comes to visual art.

Someone posted some Charlie Immer in the Exai thread when it first came out and somehow that resonated with me. Seeing Annihilation reminded me of it a lot and so I finally made the effort to figure out who had actually made it.

Syd Mead is a long time fave.

Always liked Albrecht Dürer too.

Had a crush on HR Giger when I was younger.

I liked Francis Bacon too until I watched the documentary on him. Usually you can separate the art from the personality but it made me see his art differently.

I don't know if this counts but I love everything about this.

I found Nychos through instagram and I really love his work. It's a mix of pop art and lifelike anatomy.

love syd mead -  I never tire of 70s / 80s era retrofuturism / sci fi art

Discovered Cannabis Works (Tatsuyuki Tanaka) 8 years ago, and have always found his stuff intriguing

new one for me, thanks!

^ I became quite interested in symbolism era paintings awhile back and many are similar to the scope and style of Beksinski, Jean Delville in particular

personal faves start with Max Ernst for that alchemy of collage, frottage & all manner of rubbings. A print of Birth of a Galaxy is in my living room & Europe After the Rain still punches you in the guts

Leonora Carrington for her strange figures in scenes like something fetched back from a fevered dream. Read the few texts that make an attempt to draw interpretations of her world views & still only vaguely wiser

Unica Zurn's story is utterly tragic, but her works pull you in like incantations

going all the way back to Paleolithic cave art + that period's penchant for figurines all blow my fkn mind, with the figurines i cant help but be reminded of strange dolls.....self perception & representation in paintings from 40,000 - 25,000BC

edit for phogot, more contemporary:

Clare Woods paints on glass & other reflective surfaces, her moods gives me the creeps in a good way

almost the polar opposite, Craig Kauffman's pieces using light, transparent plastics & bold colours are MINT. Only knew of these cos a friend dragged me to his recent Laaaandan exhibition......visual art that, somehow, you wish you could eat

last but not least, there was an exhibition on "light" art @ the Hayward a few years ago, some of it was pretentious wank, but one "exhibit" by Leo Villareal was possibly one of the greatest works these eyes have seen (just hope these re-scale)

personal fave (with different photographic hues), Leo Villareal's "Cylinder"

I visit art galleries and museums now and then but I'm really bad at remembering names so I started to write down the artists I liked but now I think I've lost the list.. fuu..

Kandinsky is the greatest.  Planned to post him and then saw that he'd already been posted lol.  I saw a bunch of his stuff at the Guggenheim a few years ago and it was amazing.
