APHEX TWIN - SYRO

Is it an easy process ordering the Japanese version? I seem to remember ordering direct from a Japanese record shop with another record, and it was so long winded.

I'd quite like to get top notch albums in a Japanese release also (if possible).

Has anyone drawn the parallels between Richard Linklater's Boyhood and the timing of the Syro releasehe's 18.

i understand the excitement but this is a bit "too far" for me!

we can find Syro's number coincidence in my fridge if we really want to

I think it might be salient to remind folks:

  • Richard has told a few porky pies (exaggerated truths) in interviews before - no reason for him to stop now. It's a game.
  • Don't believe everything you read or hear - I find the truth is somewhere in between usually, and eventually finds it's way to the surface.

That ought to be sufficient stirring to keep this thread alive 'till Friday.

I can understand the staggering of physical release deliveries, but digital release ought to come out in one go worldwide. Wtf Bleep?

I reckon there might be some more surprises coming from this release!

Yeah, I've read all that, too. I understand that Grant needed the money. But that is a coincidence that is also quite an opportunity, isn't it? That discogs listing created quite a buzz when it was found, shortly after some jokey post on FACT magazine's website. Wasn't that the same news outlet that had a history of similar jokey posts about other big-name Warp artists. Just a coincidence, I guess.

Was it Grant's copy? I thought it was some other Rich's friend. I tried to search different threads but couldn't find any info about this. At least it hasn't been mentioned in this thread since the last pages seem to try to find an answer to the question of how many members are from New Zealand and other important stuff. OK, me being funny = :trashbear:

How does CD printing work at this scale and unique design? Does the label use one printer and print out a mega load and then ship that out to distributors intercontinentally? OR, does the label use multiple printers across the globe, send specs, approve proofs and physically print them in each region?

Here's why I ask...

Today's the 15th. If Australian stores will be selling this on the 19th, then retailers should recieve their stock by the 17th, 18th at the latest to arrange shelves, get promos ready, etc.

Australia is kinda far as fuck away. It's not like Warp sent a representative there to watch crates of CDs. Anyways, who's the distributor in AUS? Does this stock arrive on an international flight or freight ship along with other domestic goods? Does the AUS distro have a warehouse that this needs to go to first, confirm stock, and then ship out from before it goes to individual shops small and large? Each touch point could be a couple day affair. That means this thing is already en route and the farther it gets from the mothership, the less a leak is prevented.

I'm just doing math here and considering the reality of the industry. I'd say if it's just the honor system keeping this leak-free, we're realistically days, if not hours away from Syro splooging all over our faces.

Warpbot emails will be going out less than 10min after a leak is confirmed.

I just want to be clear that I wouldn't hold it against Richard, Grant, Rephlex, or Warp if the discogs listing was partly posted to help generate buzz (as well as pay off debts: why not both at the same time, right?). Actually, I think that's very smart, and it was no less interesting at the time when it happened, regardless of the motivations. I don't think it should really matter why it was listed and eventually morphed into the kickstarter thing. Frankly, I'm just super-happy there's new Aphex and that we got a rare classic as part of the process. If that also helped to get him more attention via a fun, alternative method, even better. Hopefully it helped bring more fans to Aphex!

How am I still 'recently joined'? wtf.

Welcome to the club! (it would be ironic if I'm no longer "recently joined" after this post).

My excitement for Syro has made me come out of my lurker shell, so maybe soon I'll be a big boy/real member!
