an amazing film done by a real auteur: joe d'amato the genius behind the emanuelle franchise (and the 11 days 11 nights thing). an island (somehwere in the caribbean) where people are getting killed? it's hard to tell because you only see one person killed so thats not really a mcguffin.

amazing music as always but , i feel there should be a deeper message being communicated- or maybe not. why not show this and call it a day?

i really wish i watched this on the big screen instead of IT

overrated as hell. with all the hype this film has been gathering and then the box office figures you'd think this was brilliant. it's basically stranger things the movie. bill skarsgård's pennywise is less playful than the tim curry version. he's supposed to be more scary except- i never felt scared. all the kids do a pretty good job- but i honestly think i like the kids from the mini series more mainly because they felt more realistic to the characters whereas these kids are more like kids acting as those characters.

top notch production design for the kids room though. every time they went into someone's room, i felt like tagging along and checking things out too.

I totally agree. It wasn't scary. The jump scares didn't scare. And that one kid from Stranger Things should just shut the fuck up. 2 hours of nonstop dick jokes loses it's charm... even if you're in Strangers Things which seems to be everyone's cup of tea. Also, that fake laughter they added to Georgie while he was chasing his stupid boat was absolutely horrible. Who the fuck decides to add something ilke that?

But yeah, it was a long episode of Stranger Things that didn't really know if it was a horror movie for grown-ups for a Goosebumps story for kids - with dick jokes.

Also, the guy in front of me in the cinema was so scared he kept rocking back and forth in his chair so he kept hitting my knees with the back of his chair. I think I gave him a bigger jump scare than anything the movie was capable of when I grabbed the back rest and shock it violently. I felt kinda bad afterwards.

the east - the scene where they are eating and the crusty leader asks her to eat soup without using her hands and she struggles and then the other crusties all smugly take their spoons in their mouths and feed the person next to them in one deliberate motion.

I HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT THAT FUCKING SCENE

I was literally told some Christian parable story along the exact same line back in school when I was like 6 lmao

I watched D'amato's Porno Holocaust tonight, pretty hilarious. The soundtrack is decent 70s analogue synth + disco, but the plot is non-existent. For the first hour it's a standard early 80s Italian porn flick, then some potato dick mutant shows up and pretty much fucks and murders every girl in the movie. They seemed to be ship wrecked or something? Who knows.

Wait, is this the same movie? lol

I agree with most of what you both said although I came away with a generally positive impression. I found the dick jokes charming, I guess it's been long enough since I was inundated with them that they're mildly amusing to me. I will say that I wholeheartedly agree that it wasn't frightening at all, except for one cleverly placed jump scare. I was really disappointed when they introduced the clown because he was so utterly unfrightening and the score was so boring I was afraid that was all this movie would have to offer. I'm no expert but it seems to me that the director is still trying to find their footing with pacing and atmosphere. I would give them another chance for sure.

I would maybe add one to the score to bring it to a total of 7 cans of paper boat wax.

my showing of it was packed full of rowdy latino teens. the only thing that rivaled this level of cholo was the later fast and the furious movies and maybe paranormal activity. i was expecting to see a moonbounce with racing fins floating around the parking lot. anyway it was horrible, although i did like watching the fat kid get cucked repeatedly by a child with a stutter. really put things in perspective.

Chiming in with sweepstakes here. I read IT when I was around the age of the kids in the book and lived that fucking story, so I will never be happy with an adaptation unless it's some 5 season HBO thing directed by Lynch or something.

Nonetheless I had a lot of fun watching this. The your mom jokes amused me and the 'scary' bits (not scary) were well done in a horror funhouse/rollercoaster way.

I'd forgotten about the fake kid laugh they added to Georgie though, yeah I remember that irritating me also.

did they do the preteen gangbang in this one? I still lol every time I think about that idea popping into SK's head.

Unfortunately not. :^)

It gets better:

They all take turns and afterwards say "did you?" to her but she's like nah.

Then the fat kid goes last, the one secretly in love with her, and he has a really big dick and she does a cum while thinking about birds.

I am not making this up

I liked the book. It was definitely fucked up.

Hey if it weren't for Stephen King we wouldn't have The Shining either.

it was his fucked-up idea of holding on to a bond between the group who are all on the verge of going their separate ways. a kind of post-traumatic cumming-of-age thing. you have to read it to get the idea.

I too read It at a formative time in my life but I always wtf'd at that bit and as a (pseudo)grownup now I think whatever he was aiming for there fell on its face. it's not discussed in pop culture talk about the book afaik and would never be considered for a film adaptation, which makes this hyped nostalgia-capitalising 2017 redo a bit ironic or summat.

doesn't disincline me from enjoying some SK quite a bit still.

edit: fun fact, I got bashed over the head with a copy of It. twice, iirc. for a 1000+ page book, this is no giggling matter.
