Hey thank you for the message Damo ! I'm working in Toulouse's hospital (4th biggest french city for the non-french watmmers) and things seem to be in control right now but it will probably get really tough, really quick.

I know this is something everybody is hearing right now but this thing is really brutal and we really need to respect the social distance measures. And that's coming from a soon-to-be doctor who didn't think the Covid outbreak would be a problem few weeks ago lol.

Cheers to everyone !

Total respect, stay strong !

i disagree. the explicit content of spiral's post included the following

  • contracting the virus is inevitable
  • he tells that to people using sanitizer

spiral then projects an obviously incorrect rationale onto his coworkers, the idea that sanitizer will grant them absolute protection. obviously nobody thinks that. like not a single person on earth. so the only way to interpret it is as hyperbole, meaning that spiral's statement is aimed to deride the different but similar mentality that actually exists in reality, that using sanitizer helps.

and no chen i'm not ok and yeah chen i am stressed. but we don't have time to tolerate goobers depositing harmful misinformation on this topic, and i think it is correct for me to set the example that we should not tolerate such frivolous information handling in these dire times.

Mate, if you're not ok, and you're stressed, maybe find someone to talk to - seriously - these can be stressful times for sure. I don't think anyone here is taking serious medical advice from hello spiral (at least I hope not), so I think you're over-reacting in your replies to him. Be well! Take a walk (where there aren't people obviously) and stop consuming so much media on COVID maybe?

But for some people it's a death or life matter (if only in their mind or for real doesn't matter at that point), so you got to expect strong reactions.

manmower said that. i personally don't agree with that but what do i know i'm no health specialist.

you could argue that spi's reply to manmower objectively implied he agrees that infection is inevitable and i'd agree with you. however i really don't see how you could interpret what he said as 'washing hands doesn't help since infection is inevitable'

Or in that case, soon to be deceased. ;D

...

O, and before some peeps might freak out, I'm not implying we're all soon to be deceased!

Wash your hands! etc

I kept saying that to people at work, sitting there with their newly bought spray bottle of disinfectant of their desks. They did not want to hear it.

And then the same people will complain about the army being in the streets! Ugh ?‍♂️

Absolutely correct,  the same people will be crying like babies . (and also, in the end, lockdown will last 3 months...)

And I wasn't joking about France going for the number one spot.

:catcry:

I think I already qualified that in what you're not quoting, but if it helps I could also rephrase it to "it's inevitable that many more will get infected" under the actual European lock-downs. It was meant as an argument against the idea that a lock-down would contain the virus almost too effectively, only for it to bite back afterwards.

I went on my first Belgian don't-call-it-a-lock-down grocery run today and from what I saw there is no way we are stopping this dead in its tracks. The news from Italy still isn't brilliant either.
