are you sure you watched the right movie?

The thing is, I started watching it a few months ago and turned it off after like 15min. It was just too much, I wasn't prepared for all the cheesy tropes and bad cgi. Now I somehow managed to get through the beginning, which is pretty bad, and then from some point on, the movie gets going. I'm just saying it turned out better than I thought it would.

Circle (2015)

Pretty much an episode of the Twilight Zone stretched out to roughly 90mins - sort of like Cube, 50 random people awake in a room, start being killed off 1 by 1, have to figure out why and how....fun if you're into those sorts of things. Not the best overall, but pleasantly passes the time

yeah i've seen it too recently, forgot to write about it here.

it's terrific. it's very original too in a sense that the style, or the technique to be more exact, is actually the substance. the story is quite primitive but in that film it doesn't even matter, the details do. because the point is to follow the protagonist and to really live those crazy intense 2 hours with her, and get to know her and other characters in the most direct way possible. really good acting too by all involved.

Agreed!

The last 40 minutes or so were so god damn tense and stressful. I loved it!

amazing film. like squee said, stressful as fuck.

edit: just learned that the 2h 20min single take wasn't faked (like birdman), but it was actually just one long take.

Director Sebastian Schipper said that it took three attempts to find the right take, the first was boring, like "make an american watch a soccer game with a 0-0 tied score", the second take was too much chaos and the third was the one.

nuts.

watched The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson on the Beeb earlier, best piece of documentary film-making taken in for a long time. Dr Feelgood guitarist Wilko gets a terminal cancer diagnosis and twists a superb, richly imagined tale with Julian Temple outlining his time left on earth, meditating on life, acid trips, music, Canvey Island, Shakespeare, Chaucer & you'll clock countless other references along the way. If you've ever lived with cancer patients or survivors it can be an emotional ride indeed. Fuckin class.

have to admit i got pretty happy watching that, might be the first pixar i see since toy story 3

Yeah, Nemo is in my top 3 Pixars, two of which weren't really successful enough or even set up story wise for a sequel:

1. WALL-E

2. Nemo

3. A Bug's Life

4. The Incredibles (is getting a sequel)

5. Toy Story 1 (yes a 4th sequel)

gotta be honest i couldn't watch that last part continuously, i kept skipping forward until the end, the stress was too much...

the details can be found here and have to do with me meeting members of children of god at the santa fe hostel

the reason they refused me joining was because i said i'd only do so under the condition i could have sex with whatever partners i wanted to. according to their "beliefs", partners are assigned by the organization though they're supposed to prostitute themselves to recruit new members. they were on their way to set up a community in los alamos which is of course where they did the trinity nuclear tests. in a way, i thought i'd made the right decision not to join based (partly) on that image of trinity, but mainly, not being allowed to "fish" as i pleased

LOVE (3D)

Welp, that sure had it's fair share of erect ejaculating penises and general penetration and fondling of all male/female orifices. Big fan of Noe, so probably giving it the benefit of the doubt - goes on pretty long and repeats itself a bunch - but sure, nothing beats sharing a bit of high quality 3D hardcore pornography with a group of strangers in a dark room. A few cool visuals, but I think the nature of 3D restricted Noe to a slower cutting speed and general pace - which isn't really a bad thing....

Four Lions - rewatched to escape Jihadist news insania for what boils down to be a buddy film of desperate proportions

god bless Chris Morris, noticed he directed a few eipisodes of VEEP, just wish the bloke released more material but i'll take quality over quantity every time

Bill Drummond documentary about "The 17" - Bill draws a line from Kent to the west coast of Ireland then makes a song that will be heard only once then deleted forever. Really enjoyed this, Drummond adds to the very high pile of eccentric UK people. Poignancy was set when he says "Score xxx - Pulse!" then sings his own interpretation of his pulse. So many people think of these great ideas but it takes some cojones to act on them, Drummond just listens to his inner pulse more than most I suppose.

a classic right here by the auteur fred olen ray. this film has many variations of the title but was originally known as maximum security. it's basically die hard in a prison and the last place you'd expect to see monique parent here sporting a short brunette bob.

9 big guns out of 10
