APHEX TWIN - SYRO

Hya guys, I'm new, have been lurking for about a year now (and have pretty much read every post in this thread).

I know, read the rules.

For those wondering about the font used: on the Syro webpage, if you check the CSS, you'll see that they used Decima Mono Light. I'm really sure that's the one they used on the album cover as well.

Oh, and the page has changed, at least, the .com. There's links to the webshops on there now.

great find

Well spotted!

wonder if the mfm would be identical to the white label notch has or if there was truth to him "redoing" the album as he alluded in that one interview that one time.

<3 mfm would buy

The way I'm thinking is that the white label was the redone one. It's different from the tape (which is what came first from my understanding) in that it only has like 8 tracks or something. But then he says he keeps redoing it too, just like changing it out and adding to it. I really wish he would change out the title, to Mr. Men.

i tried to go back in the thread to find the post but I got tired and stopped, what I want to know is do the confirmed live unreleased tracks that will be appearing on Syro comprise of 4 or 5 of the album tracks and are they the album openers?

I'm trying to stop myself from listening to them again, the only one I really remember is metz but I'm just curious if Richard knew that we might expect those tracks on a release and put them all at the beginning, leaving a aurallytotally virgin second half

"So then he put thesis two other records up for sale - Analogue Bubblebath 5 and Melodies from Mars and I asked him to stop it - because I want to release them Properly through Warp. It's part of my back catalog did I want them to put out. Then this Notch guy, this Minecraft guy who so bought the Caustic Window test pressing on ebay bought these from him. And I said fine as long as he does not release them. I just do not want anyone to bootleg them"

bit late for that.

Notch didn't buy Analogue Bubblebath 5 from him...

Richard's concern was that higher quality rips would end up online, effectively scuppering any reason to release them legitamately.

I guess I can finally share this bit of the whole story since he's mentioned who bought them ultimately:

When we were getting ready to list the Caustic Window LP on Ebay, it was also decided to go ahead and list ABB5 and MFM as well - all was fine until the last minute, when someone sniped both releases - turns out that sniper was Richard himself, as he explained his reasons - the more he thought about higher quality rips getting out there, the less incentive for him to legitimately release them (and he was working towards doing so).

So, we talked with Ebay, got the auctions cancelled, and approached Notch Persson, who at this point was buying the Caustic Window LP (and actually was in the running for Melodies From Mars, but Richard outbid him at the last minute), and Grant talked to Notch, who agreed to purchase the others at an undisclosed price, since we were assured Notch wasn't going to rip and leak these online (keep in mind, this was the last known copy of the MFM test pressing - much higher quality than the tapes that got leaked years ago).

That's why I had to say nay to the Kickstarters for MFM and ABB5, and why the Ebay auctions happened the way they did.

This story is not 100% accurate... ABB5 wasn't bought by Notch.

Yep, odd coincidence, for sure!

Also, from the link I posted earlier re: Dead Sea rave:

http://noyzelab.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/afx-dsp-box-commission-2002.html

it all started when we were on the rephlex tour of turkey / israel / egypt in 2000, me & damo were doing video projections/vj. that was a time! rephlex co-founder grant was asked by Spannered "What are the 3 most cherished memories you hold from 20 years of Rephlex?" one of which was :
— a super fat Turbosound system with a few thousand ravers and 16 of my posse on the edge of the Dead Sea in Israel.
In other words, being in a band of travelling minstrels, taking serious tunes for nice people all over the world, trying to do our bit for science with music.

That is a beautiful thing to read. Actually, it was one of the first things that I read today that really got me fired up and going in the most pleasantest of senses.

Beautiful <3

morning all:)

very new here; I lurked during the boctransmissions, good to share the excitement about the imminent shit. so how many of the live tracks are established as being n the record? I know the usual suspects: m,mz,St. is there a fourth?

I try to update the original post with useful information for as long as it feels relevant to do so. There is no track or performance apart from manchester, metz or singapore that's virtually confirmed, let alone suggested, although some members have baselessly suggested that the Barbican (suspended piano) performance might be aisatsana (track 12).

There are two recent interview snippets by fader mag and pitchfork if you check back with the OP.

Current news is that we have discovered the typeface on the album cover to be Norm Simple Regular.

Nah, the font is definitely Decima Mono. Look at Norm Simple's W, it's too wide, The serifs on the I are too narrow. The 'g' is totally different from the one seen in the album artwork. Compare the lowercase fonts..!

Here's Decima Mono Light

And regular, which is probably used for the vignette

I'm a typography nerd

wicked, thanks for postting this

Possible solution: Jasondonervan sends Chim the info to add to the thread starter.

*falls off the stage*

edit: has been done already....well done!

Guest skibby

by the numbers on the back of the album, it could be inferred how many copies of the LP and CD are being made. How many would you guess that would be?

also is there a prize for the closest guess?
