I have been using a $40 pair of skullcandy headband style headphones. Kinda shit. Actually the sound quality is fantastic but I have NO idea what they designers were thinking when they used the plastic. Tofu would have been a stronger decision. I'm looking for headband style, or the ones that go behind your head. I fucking hate earbuds so don't even start with that. What do you guys use? I don't mind them being somewhat big, but not too huge. I am not using them for performing or anything, but I want some really decent sound quality so I can hear all the subtleties of the music.

After doing some pretty simple/shit composition for a few years now i've become very interested in how rhythm in music actually functions, ie why things sound the way they do, create the emotion they do, just from the structure of the rhythm. I have found very little information on this online, almost nothing beyond notation and some very simple stuff that isn't really explanatory. Seems like almost everyone can come up with some decent sounding rhythms by following their intuition for what feels right, but I suspect most of this is similar to what GPT3 does, and you are just extending the track by predicting what should come next, and that prediction comes from all …

In the "Programming" thread I mentioned that I was playing around with spectral editing in Python. Shifting the frequencies and what not and then writing it into a sound file. I decided to make a simple GUI with Kivy for one of the processes and I put it in GitHub in case anyone else might be interested. Basically the app shifts frequencies linearly instead of proportionally which breaks the harmonic frequencies making melodies and chords sound out of tune and making harmonic sounds sound alien or artificial. Here's a simple example with Für Elise on piano: You can basically use it to turn any melodic piece into microtonal weirdness. Also additional we…

this might have already been touched on but it looks like vst 3 is more efficient in many ways. is it ever not good to use vst 3?

Your favorite Ai based plugins, vsts, etc Also a related question. Is there any Ai plugins that can go through your samples and find ones that match a certain note. It would be awesome if you could query the Ai for a c4 note, and it would look thru all your audio and stitch together anything resembling that note, at least from 'fits a lot' to 'kinda fits'. I do know about that vst that can sort drums by similarity, mostly one shots or short loops I think? Edit: Here is a link to the 'top' ones. Some do what I describe to a lesser extent it seems. Has anyone tried these? https://www.attackmagazine.com/reviews/the-best/the-best-ai-assist-plugins/

Hello everyone! Through the use of a depth camera (Kinect V2), I’ve managed to create this cool real-time filter in TouchDesigner. What do you people think about it? Can't wait to see this badboy live on stages! Music and visuals by myself.

To give an example of what I mean. In this video there really is no static time signature, but yet still a coherent rhythm: Let's say I took this and instead of forcing a specific time signature, I just customly placed the beats where each new beat or rhythm would be, and then the DAW would be able to snap to these new chosen rhythms. Most obvious way to get this sound is to have a static time signature, but automate the tempo. Or instead of using a normal DAW sequencer, just throw it in audacity or something and use the drum placements as where I should be mapping the changing beats to. But it would be much better if I could just map out the…

https://vochlea.com/ I just bought this on sale for Black Friday. It starts tomorrow, but if you enter your email it'll send you a link to buy it a day early. It's not cheap but I was instantly sold when I saw how accurate it was. I've only had an hour to play around with it, and I'm already loving this so I felt since it's on sale I'd share it with WATMM. I'm decent at beatboxing and not really that good at even humming in tune, but it will train notes/pitches to your voice and helps you fill in the gaps. Since I can't play piano much this I can tell will be awesome for getting ideas down quickly without having to sing badly into my phone to try and decipher la…

Friend and I like to jam together but being around each other physically is a one month in 2 or 3 years thing. We hang out and jam a lot during that time but it always feels bittersweet we never get much done musicwise. Every year we come back and enough has changed to where we prefer to make new sounds and it's been like this for a few years now. So I've been trying to think of ways to jam online. No different than jumping into a multiplayer game. That would open up a lot of windows to where we don't have to be physically present, and could do frequent 1 or 2 hour jams. I use FL Studio primarily for collaboration, and he likes to play guitar/piano/sax live. So …

What kind of headphones do you use/like the most? Any manufacturers in particular that have your constant nod of approval? What tends to bother you about headphones on the market nowadays? I've searched but (surprisingly) failed to find any discussion here dedicated to headphones. Been needing to pick up a new pair soon, and push has come to shove since my Denon headphones (would not recommend) are literally falling to pieces. Especially unsure which ones i want next since my uses have broadened (monitoring many machines at once, EQing, listening to records, general music listening-to). Only thing i know is that they must be over-the-ear

Hey all I searched for a welcome thread but couldn't find one so assume creating a new topic is fine. Please move if I have missed something. I'm still reading through the guidelines. A little bit about my story. I have been making music since I was 10 years old. I started playing this old organ we had in our living room, taking the back off and look at the electronics behind, and the massive volume of it and the bass were pretty nuts. My older brother introduced me to OctaMED on the Amiga where I learnt to sample, and Music X (that bright pink and blue thing) where I learned midi programming JMJ tracks and making my own rip offs. I was big into JMJ as a ni…

Hello everyone! Been working for quite a bit in a way to transform image into sound, and came up with a hopefully-interesting idea. In this tutorial you’re going to learn how to transform RGB data into MIDI in TouchDesigner, and feed it to Ableton Live: I’ve also uploaded both project files and the final Ableton session for all my patrons: https://linktr.ee/uisato Enjoy! ?

Does this deserve it's own thread? I'm getting hella gassy watching videos of it. I don't need it and, maybe it's better suited for hip hop beats? What's yalls opinions on this? Price seems respectable at about 675 Canadian dollars.

So, my setup is nearing completion, got all the plugins I love, a bunch of awesome synths(prophet 08, waldorf pulse 2, korg dw-800, virus-b, ms-2000, verona lancet kick, machinedrum-uw), a nice powerful pc, nice soundcard(saffire proplus28 i/o) but im still on krk rokit 5's that i have kicked fuck out of partying at redline full volume for two years, I literally have no idea if the horrible crackling thump I hear from the bass is because the krks are distorting, or im pushing my sound too much on ableton. so with a budget of 800-1000 pounds (1500 dollars?) what does watmm think is the tits for monitors right now. im looking at genelecs and adams, and…

Hello humans. Did have an i7 (old chip tho) - I think 2.5ghz with a hybrid ssd, windows 10 and 4GB ram. Ran Ableton 11 suite and external gear basically. I'm not a heavy Max user or anything like that. Used Ableton more as an experimental platform and sequencer really to record into and mix etc. I primarily play guitar or and go from there. Found it pretty good overall. Motherboard died and can't be replaced. Gutted. Luckily can recover data off drives but other than that I need a new laptop. Too old to be sorted really. At this stage I'd be interested to see what I'd get comparable spec wise for maybe max £500. Ultimately I just want something reliable with a …

Sampling Synths 1 2

Just curious how you people sample your synths. Do you sample one note and transpose it or sample long melody phrases. I bought a couple synths and am a bit confused how to integrate them into my setup. Also I'd prefer to sequence in my daw and I'm not that good with playing keys by hand but I could...

Anyone a user of this program here? I bought it a few months back and have completely fallen in love with it. I'm pretty new to using software for sequencing but people describe it as being like Max but devoted entirely to MIDI. I've already got a ton of really nice results from it and even more inspiration but would love to have other people to chat with about patch designing and such. Here's the site if anyone's interested in having a look: https://www.loomer.co.uk/architect.htm The demo version is free and the only limitation is that you can't save a project. You can however save your patches as 'fragments' which can then be loaded so not being able to save pr…

Beginning to feel FM. I think they're some pretty cool sounds to be had and its quite versatile. I do like some cheesy ass presets like brass, bass and ep but the more esoteric sounds are beginning to float my boat too. Yay!!!
