Sorry for yet another NTS sessions thread, but I felt this subject of 'how' NTS came about vs how it sounds might be an interesting discussion! I remember saying in the main thread of the release (when only the first session had aired) that this music sounded even more like it could have been captured from any point in one of Ae's patches - that the content kind of just 'goes', which I did enjoy but I didn't understand how people were finding this less like that than previous recent releases. Well, I realise now that I was totally wrong. I think I was hearing 'bqbqbq' when I wrote that, so with that specific track (and maybe two or three others) it was maybe unde…

It is with great joy (recounted with equally great sobriety), folks, that this morning I see, sitting waiting for me on the chair by the front door, a package, brown, approximately LP-sized, which I know can only contain one thing. Three days before the official release date and it has arrived! It's a hefty bit of kit which the packaging from Bleep, as always, does a beautiful job of preserving, and after carefully scissoring the green tape the flaps of cardboard fold out to reveal the beautiful monster which is Oversteps. We've seen the artwork on the net, but now to hold the whole thing all its heavy majesty is something entirely different. Those of you who care…

When I heard Dummy Casual, it drove me insane because I just knew I had heard that "melody" before. It took a few weeks of random listening both to NTS and the back catalogue but I finally figured it out: Dummy Casual has the same "melody" as tac Lacora! Forgive me if this is obvious to everyone else, but: Listen to Dummy Casual, 0:00 - 0:50 or so. Listen to tac Lacora from 0:49 - 1:58 or so. I have to say, I prefer Dummy Casual to tac Lacora, even though they are brothers (and even though L-event is way high on my list of EPs)...Dummy Casual has this sinister shuffling, feels like you're in a strange land feeling going on. There's a few spots in the…

I have a suspicion autechre leaked it themselves. edit: whoops, someone put this in the autechre forum

... After the announcement of Tokyo and Melburne, Sydney, Hobart, and Dublin have grown. I think that in the days to come new dates will be announced, it seems to me so useful to dedicate a post to the events that, with a little 'luck, will temp 2018. At the moment: 13 Jun 2018 / - Tokyo 13 Jun 2018 / - Hobart (the same date of Tokyo? Roberto Rossellini and Samuele Bersani have conquered the power of ubiquity?) 20 Jun 2018 / - Sydney 21 Jun 2018 / - Melburne 22 Jun 2018 / - Hobart second round (...mhhh...) 15 july 2018 / - Dublin https://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/autechre/dates At the moment it seems to me that the only live designated for a theater, is …

Feed1's kicks

I suppose it could be anyone's guess - but wtf is going with those kicks in Feed1? Are they generative patterns with wild swing, kinda shuffling between a quarter note and triplet feel? They're so far behind (or in front?) of the beat at times it's ridiculous.

Autechre and Miles Davis
by Guest MaartenWesselius- 20 replies

Years ago I mistakenly found myself playing two media players at the same time: one playing Inhake 2 and the other playing Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. To my surprise, it was a very good match. I always remembered that combination and a few weeks ago I decided to recreate that. You can listen to it here: https://soundcloud.com/maelesdaevis/inhake-flamenco A fun but difficult project was born trying to make several Autechre - Miles Davis mashups. You can listen to them on the Maeles Daevis Soundcloud page. I hope you guys don't see this as shameless self-promotion. If you think this should be in another forum, let me know. But since this is not original music I made, I …

Zero promotion of the NTS and almost no media attention made me thinking about the economics behing Autechre. How are they making money? From the AAA thread we know that they were (?) on the Warp bill with a monthly commission. That seemed to be working well and the boys didn't seem to be bothered. Though one of them (can't remember which one) said that it gets tight financially and he can't afford all he needed. The arrangement held until AE_LIVE. The concerts' posters had a Warp logo, but the music was realased exclusively on their bleep store without the warp support/promotion. Elseq has followed this pattern. We know that there's a deal between warp and blee…
