Inspired by @NewSchoolScience post in the thread, I got to thinking - what is everyone's favourite Autechre track that's unreleased?

I believe there is already a topic dedicated to graphics: now I haven't found it, so I write this: eventually deleted and incorporated it into the already existing one. Among other things, In this interview Ian Anderson talks about his relationship with S&R and the philosophical stimulus specifically related to ae, and the love for oversteps: https://warp.net/editorial/reasonable-person-an-interview-with-ian-anderson?fbclid=IwAR1sKpJx1eULMucWR_HwklBLSi0yCtnMei2-iRFuYoX9fUfd6hYMnxY0QvQ

In the last two decades there seems to be a recurring trend in the use of certain trax that have a pronounced use of bass synths in lower octave C#. Pretty much starting from EP7 all the way up to NTS. Here are the trax in particular that come to mind: ccec squeller (?) outpt vi scose poise 1 1 is (?) [halfway point in all AE_LIVE sets] acid mwan idle Okay, so there's a 12-year gap in between in that list. But maybe I missed one or two. Anyway, as anyone else noticed this? And if I missed any trax that fit the description above, I encourage you to add them.

Ahem, with all the raving here that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, I say to myself, "damn, maybe I need to give this yet another try." And after yet another listen, I always come to the same conclusion that, while it has it's moments, Confield is simply a difficult, moody, and just plain cranky Autechre album to me. And yet I imagine that it's for these very reasons that fans of it get so hot and bothered. It's not bad, but there are just so many other Autechre/Gescom releases that deliver for me that I can't be bothered to go through the mental calisthenics of listening to this. Bring the counterpoints, as if I need to ask for any! I do find it int…

Not sure if this track has ever been posted or discussed, so apologies for that. I stumbled upon this after I stumbled upon these noise anthology compilations (which are very interestings, czech them out) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EEn1h9k87Y Now I'm wondering how many awesome versions of tracks they have that didn't make it on albums.

Besides the few clips on Skam's site and the one 47 minute long recording, does anyone know if there are any more full shows floating around the internet?

This is just a rant. I am so fucking sick of people dismissing Ae's post-Chiastic output ("where are the tunes?!") and recommending their early albums instead as "absolute masterpieces" with "soul" and "melody" and "blah blah blah". It just screams "I am a stupid, impatient, close-minded, casual, basic, stuck-in-the-past, not-capable-of-listening, knowing-nothing-about-music-melody-rhythm-and-structure, accidentally-bumped-into-IDM-when-I-was-young-and-now-I-am-old-and-tired-with-kids-in-need-of-easy-fun, rather-listen-to-boards-of-canada-because-deep-emotions-tunes-nature-and-geocatching-for-rare-eps, I-can't-hum-it-in-a-shower dumbass". Wanted to see if there are any other film lovers here, what you think about Autechre's references to Kubrick, Lynch, and Tarkovsky in interviews and elsewhere? Had an opportunity to see Kubrick's 2001 A Space Odyssey on IMAX recently and forgot about the soundtrack and how well it fits with the images. One song toward the end of the film reminded me a lot of mirrage on NTS 4, and I always think of HAL dying when listening to foldfree casual on elseq 4. Their music seems to evoke a lot of interesting spatial imagery in listeners, but fewer images of time, and I've been wondering about the comment made in an interview where one of the Autechre guys said he was influenced by…

If I had been a member of watmm when AE did their ask-me-anything, I definitely would have asked about their approach to melody. Don't understand people who say they wish Autechre would return to their earlier days when they had melodies, for I feel every one of their releases has interesting and arresting melodies. There was an interview from Oversteps era where they said that beat stuff came naturally to them, so they decided to focus more on 'harmony, melody, and counterpoint.' Always wondered what this looked like on their end: cannot see them sitting down to study Bach's chorales. I imagine them doing everything intuitively, experimenting guess-and-check style w…

T ess xi starts off with a chord progression, 16 bars long, shown in the attached image. In bar 1 we have four notes (music harmony people: Eb major seventh chord). For our purpose here, think of those four notes as two intervals played simultaneously, the lower interval (coloured dark grey), and the upper (light grey) interval. From this initial position in bar 1, the movement of those intervals for bars [1..8] is as follows: move the upper interval down 1 row move the lower interval down 1 row move the lower interval down 1 row move the upper interval down 1 row Going from bar 8 to bar 9, the intervals change: their low notes are shifted up two rows (so …

Hello knob twiddlers! I've been getting into stuff like Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin as of late (moreso Aphex Twin) and I want to check out Autechre, but since they have a monolithic body of work I'm not really sure where to start. I'm intrigued by the elseq 1-5 albums and the NTS sessions, but those things are so freaking huge that I don't think I should start there. What would you all recommend? Tri Repidae?

I'm a little obsessed with this moment in this set. The prominent timbre(s) is so morphing and swirling, and the percussive hits are so perfectly placed in time. It builds pressure so well also. Exemplifies the apex of something structural to me. Not to detract from the entire set, because it's truly amazing. I'm crossing my fingers that they decide to keep adding to the AE_LIVE discography. There's something about they way the structure the flow between scenes/songs that appeals to my attention span or lack thereof. Like, I can listen to a 20 minute track llke tt1pd, and it doesn't feel long at all, but at the same time, i like how the AE_LIVE sets evolve quickly. I …
