So, our contracts will effective conclude today. We will be  entitled  to 30  days  of  pay  from  March  25.  The company will  provide  us with  a  flight  home  and a  return  ticket  when  it  is  time  to  come  back  to  work.  However,  if  it’s  not possible  to  secure  flights  home  due  to  travel  restrictions  –  or  if we have any  concerns  about returning  home  –  we are  welcome  to  stay  on  board  as  non-working  crew with  access  to  accommodations,  food,  medical  assistance  and  WIFI  at  no  cost...

I choose to stay...

Yes. I worked in kitchens for my livelihood for nearly a decade, and I can also confirm all of this. Just humans serving humans; it’s no different seeing strangers working hard in front or strangers working hard in the back.

A decade ago I used to manage a pub (a fancy one). I noticed one chef was constantly playing with his balls. Had to literally shout at him to get him to wash his hands, which I did every time I caught him with his hands down his pants.

Any kitchen I've ever worked in this behaviour would get you sacked.  Generally speaking the 3 kitchens I've worked in are far cleaner than me cooking at home. Food sanitizer on stainless steel surfaces every few minutes, gloves for any wet food contact, separate fridges and work spaces to avoid cross contamination.

I worked in  a high end restaurant in Buckhead

that made millions no joke

the dinning room flooded with sewage

from a backed up drain

they used a vacuum hose to transfer it out the back into the street

cleaned and opened up

no more than an hour after they finished

get that food cooking

cover up the smell

the dish pit was always flooded

in july (hotlanta, yikes) the air conditioning broke and they didn't fix it for a month

just brought in a huge fan

sweat, sweat everywhere

I talked to this guy who cleaned air ducts

said he would absolutely never eat in a restaurant after what he saw

I never eat out

but I only eat organic

organic restaurants hard to find in ireland

so I'm always cooking my meals at home:)

Yep, same here. My boss was a Michelin starred chef who owned and ran his own businesses in Cheltenham.

But then, as with most things, there are kitchens, and Kitchens.  He was meticulously clean.

tfw you wake up to 10k+ total deaths from batcock virus.

20k, on our way. Doubled in 5 days and going to get worse before it gets better, with a bunch of countries headed towards their peaks. Not to mention those where it could just begin to get serious next. Brace for the g's.

Maybe we're already close to the end of this and the cases we see now going bad are the crescendo

Bloody hope so, I could be out with my friends skating, smoking and just generally making the most of the last bit of my last teenage year before I'm too old for my behaviour to be normal but noooooooo someone had to eat some dodgy bat ?

Finland has had 3 casualties in total during the whole pandemic and restaurants only serve takeaway now, bars closed, ski centres closed, schools (mostly) closed. And travel to and from the Helsinki region is probably going to be banned in a couple of days.

Meanwhile Stockholm alone has had 18 deaths due to covid19 today and everything basically stays open in Sweden. Wtf?

Every kitchen is different, yes. I have worked for an incredibly anally retentive chef. Nightmare to work for, but the best chef and food. But still you use your hands and they can't see everything

I was friends with a Japanese guy years ago. He'd wash and wipe down everything before it went in his fridge. Id look at him like he was nuts and he be like 'I can't afford to get sick'.
