hi guys, around this time last year I reached out to the forum while conducting my thesis research to try and better understand the history and online essence of idm culture I framed idm as a disorganized online idm subculture, situating its history in rave culture and the impact that the UK rave movement and internet had on the formation of similar communities. I talked about self-identity, authenticity, social capital, cultural practices, the mainstream & underground, and some critical issues in race/gender inclusion that are quite general in the context of popular electronic music I'm happy to share this final product with you - I graduated in september a…

Hi guys, what are the tools of choice if typically I have a self-created music file, but want to upload to Youtube? Obviously needs a video file/container. I'm fine with just adding a steady image. Also: What would be an ideal output format for my daw? Ideally I don't want any transcoding to happen. Most lossy formats support embedded pictures. If only Youtube just allowed uploading audio files and made use of embedded album art... Note to self: or I should look at the video capabilities of my DAW, Reaper. thx

Spoiler Not language, but languish https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/19/well/mind/covid-mental-health-languishing.html Languishing is not merely in our heads — it’s in our circumstances. You can’t heal a sick culture with personal bandages. We still live in a world that normalizes physical health challenges but stigmatizes mental health challenges. As we head into a new post-pandemic reality, it’s time to rethink our understanding of mental health and well-being. “Not depressed” doesn’t mean you’re not struggling. “Not burned out” doesn’t mean you’re fired up. By acknowledging that so many of us are languishing, w…

Yeah, that Cyriak. Not kidding. The music is recognisably Cyriak. And after the first few levels, the madness as well. Here's a playlist of legendary Youtube doomer decino playing through the levels one by one. A hell of a trip, if you ask me. Definitly enjoyable if you're one of those people with DOOM-melancholy. Read, grew up playing 90s DOOM. Also, happy new yeear For the few who don't know Cyriak. (blasphemy!) He's the guy famous for making these

Brian Eno Slams NFTs: “Now Artists Can Become Little Capitalist Assholes As Well” 1 2 3

"I’ve been approached several times to “make an NFT.” So far, nothing has convinced me that there is anything worth making in that arena. “Worth making” for me implies bringing something into existence that adds value to the world, not just to a bank account. If I had primarily wanted to make money, I would have had a different career as a different kind of person. I probably wouldn’t have chosen to be an artist. NFTs seem to me just a way for artists to get a little piece of the action from global capitalism, our own cute little version of financialization. How sweet — now artists can become little capitalist assholes as well… People I like and trust are convince…

Yes, you read the title correctly, I was reading the forum years ago and someone posted a link to a website for a book that doesn't exist, the website was pretty old and had some really strange theory about I think alien life on earth. Let me just say, it was pretty far out. The website was quite strange and I think the person who did it had a similar belief as Erich von Däniken https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erich_von_Däniken However this very old and odd looking website was referring to a book that apparently newer was written. If anyone can remember something I am open to anything. You might ask why I am looking for the website, I have been thinking about…

So today Soundcloud began placing ads into listening sessions for desktop users. They put this in practice in the past for a bit to encourage PRO account and GO account subscription sales. But then they took it away for the free desktop user accounts. As of yesterday they put it back in play. I have found so many artists from WATMM through desk job day listening and playlist making on soundcloud. Was hoping I could get some suggestions for replacement sites with free all access listening ability accounts for desktop use. Or everyone's favorite spot. I have enjoyed making mixes and discovering all you beautiful bastards amazing work. I know this forum offers plenty to s…

This one has to be mine. The lyrics are the best and i'll recite one for you. And there's something about it that just grabs me. Could you "WANNA" take my picture, cos i won't remember. Whoever doesn't hear "wanna" is just deaf. Now think about what he's saying there too. He chose "COULD" because, if anyone did take his picture and show it back to him he "WOULD" remember. Get it? Take someone's picture. Go

Hey there. So I have been reading the forum for a few years now and have an issue i think you guys might have be able to help me with. It's not quite something I'd want to share with people in real life and I've read some good relationship advice here so here we go: I have been seeing this girl for about 3 months. We've spent a good amount of time together, talking, going out, having sex... She has grown on me more and more. We just came back from our first holiday together (2 weeks) and although we both feared that maybe we would get a bit bored of each other (at best) by the end, this did not happen at all, and it has actually brought us even closer, to the point w…

Any of you been? Was thinking about in spring maybe organising a short trip over to Switzerland to visit. Just a few days, maybe see a couple of other things but don’t want it to turn into a grand tour of Switzerland. The primary reason is the museum, but obviously if there are a few mega amazing things close by to Bern then I’ll set out to conquer them. My knowledge of Switzerland isn’t great, though I have the sneaky suspicion it’s one of those countries where it cost £12 for a glass (and not a pint glass!) of beer. So any watmm tour guides out there I’d appreciate some inside knowledge.
