How does one learn how to program for audio applications? It seems there is a bit of demand for this position in the gaming industry, and I'm interested in switching careers. I know there are quite a few web developers on here, so I thought you fellas might have an idea.

This world that we live in is not the earth that religions refer to, but actually hell. Every one of us walking in this world is either a condemned soul or a demon created to torture the real people. Be extremely careful about feelings of happiness, theyre usually traps that have been set for you to suffer more. People who show you kindness and say they care about you are almost always demons working for the evil god. Our god is a dog-god, with canid head and a harsh, rancorous voice that erupts through bared fangs and black maw, casting a cold miasma of rotting flesh as he calls each of us by name. He isnt connected to our sun but to sirius. He watches us from …

Your Stereo 1 2 3 4 9

All, I did not see a thread like this yet so figured I'd see what kind of response I get. This is a place to post all things stereo related. For example, what kind of amp/reciever/speakers/sub do you use? Do you prefer vintage or modern stereo equipment? Headphones? Different brands of stereo equipment, pros/cons. etc. Also, post pictures of your setup guys and gals! My listening rooms are really important to me, it would be cool to see what everyones listening spaces look like.

Christopher Behr, an amazingly talented 3D artist, has created the starting city from the Earthboound/Mother game series. Imagine if the successor to the Wii U was capable of graphics like this in-game:

The great delusion of modern psychology, and “civilized” society as a whole is the idea that our brains are pieces of meat that belong to us. This could not be further from the truth. This delusion comes from a deadly fallacy: our experience of the world can be taken at face value. The common belief among empirically focused institutions is that our world can be objectively observed through physical measurements and inductive reasoning. However, what is overlooked is that all empirical measurement has to pass through the filter of personal experience. Every axiom ever “established” by science is founded on presumptions that were agreed upon by human beings who all ha…

I'll never understand why UK audiences didn't eat this show up like they did friends, fresh prince, etc. it's perfect 6pm eating your tea, and not watching the news, tv. I'm watching it on tv, it's on everyday twice and most of the time its still not an episode I've seen before. In the UK I believe it did air but very late at night maybe 1am.

(Bah, this post should've been in Forum Discussion / Issues, admins, please move it.) As there's occasional grumbling about the difficulty of embedding Bandcamp releases in this editor, here's my writeup on the subject, including a simple(r) solution that's far from optimal, but it works. Bandcamp release id is AFAIK actually a WordPress article id, a numeric string that's more or less random from our point of view, so it can't be guessed. The id is not included in a Bandcamp release's URL, but embedded (multiple times in different ways) within the HTML of the release page, so manual extraction requires viewing the source and knowing what to look for. …

the forms of the communicational structures of slang, in-jokes, social tendencies, interests and tastes, and political opinions, remain locked in the memories of the individuals and groups, changing over time and influenced by external forces, but nonetheless maintaining a mostly static structure and low velocity of change. however as new brains grow the flexibility and acceptance of novelty creates an in comparison rapid velocity of change, resulting in a severe drift between groups and stagnation increases with age. as a result the boomerification process is invisible to those who it is being applied to unless the velocity of change is increased through rapid degradat…

SO, uh, are they just gonna ignore 9 or is the 9 coming after the X? I thought that the X was called the X but they kept saying ten. Also, wireless charging with the charger coming next year? What?

Board Games Thread 1 2
by Dpek- 25 replies

I know I searched for a few titles on the forum in the past and came up with nothing, so here is (probably?) the first thread on WATMM devoted to board games in general. After all, having all the rules and mechanics in your head and manipulating physical pieces according to the said rules is pretty IDM right? A lot of people think about Monopoly and then maaaybe Settlers Of Catan when board games are mentioned but the truth is the board game community evolved so much in the past 15 years it's ridiculous. It has become a very strong niche with a lot of devotees; single-person developers gaining as much as 3,5 million dollars on Kickstarter campaigns; play-cafes are ope…

So I've been wearing disposable face masks but I'm thinking it would be cool to wear one more trendy and also reusable.. Anyone rocking a designer face mask?? Or just something different?? I would LOVE an aphex twin mask but I'm sure they are long gone. Quite like the looks of this one: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.gq.com/story/where-to-buy-face-masks/amp

Is it just me or does music on watmm feel like a never ending circlejerk where you have a couple of artists that are a bit past their prime time and visiting their subforums feel like waiting in front of a public restroom for someone to finish (aphex really gives me this feeling a lot) while on the other hand you have artists that have been suggested first on lastfm then Spotify for decades when listening to warp artists that get posted here as well. So as this is interesting it rarely offers something new to the table. The only new bands that got a hype here recently are basically aphex / boc coverbands that fill the void with their interpretation of the well known. …

which one is better or worse? on one hand eating meat is like cannibalism because we are all brothers and sisters, no matter what species or gender or whatever. on the other hand it doesn't matter because nature doesn't know man made morals that are flawed from the beginning on because man is flawed. so which is better?? today I ate some chicken coated in corn flakes and it was good but I think it's all a dream anyway so it doesn't matter. the world of epiphanies isn't to be confused with the real world, which is pure spirit, pure consciousness, pure oneness, possibly. so nothing we do here is really what it seems to be, including the consumption …

This new AI platform for generating text, and apparently, code, web sites, and other stuff, has been getting a lot of attention and I have to say, I'm usually underwhelmed by this stuff but the demos and examples I've seen are pretty spooky I have to say. I bet there are people on here who know about this and are using it and I'd like to hear about it. A friend said an RPG he plays was using it and I've messed around with Shortly which is a short story writing app that uses it. I suspect you could use for music and probably that's already being done somewhere.

Ben Murphy & Carl Loden interview about the book. I have All Crews and State of Bass already, looking forward to reading this. I also found a PDF of Kodwo Eshun's out-of-print More Brilliant Than The Sun - I wish I could get it in print, but second hand copies are so damn expensive and the reprint didn't happen is coming out next year, five years after it was supposed to - on the book's 25th, not 20th anniversary.

I was in fifth grade, so about 10 years old. it was just after school and we were waiting around to be picked up by our parents or bussed home, depending on whatever arrangement you had with the school. I was a pickup kid, most of my friends were bus kids. I was hanging around with them near the buses' parking area, immediately behind which was like a little wooded space, which I'm sure to an adult would just be a little green corridor to the admin buildings but which to a little-ass kid was a vast, cool, shaded forest from which to escape the punishing sun. so we're goofing around in here and my friend Mustafa finds a busted old tennis ball lying in the tangled gree…

I'll be in Paris next week for holidays (10-16) so I am gonna follow the forum tradition and ask whether there are any things (at this time around or in general) which a WATMMer shouldn't miss. I guess asking for scheduled shows (or even parties / underground clubs playing lush tunes) during a Pandemic is pretty pointless, since even the few things which would be scheduled in mid-August, are most likely not happening, but if anyone has any suggestions about quirky / original / special in some way things to do and/or places / events / attractions I should probably check, apart from the typical touristy stuff, I'd be glad to know. Thanks!

Was reading a cracked article and ended up reading this wiki page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ig_Nobel_Prize_winners There are scientific experiments for everything I guess. Shit, slime molds are so cool. They've used them to pilot simple robots and map highway systems. Look that shit up.
