I've fantasized for years about starting this thread, so it's almost a perfect example... except that it no longer exists in only my imagination. This is a thread for all the thread ideas you have that you're too lazy or ashamed to start. Face Mask Debate thread.

I have mixed feelings about Tim Curry continuing to make public appearances and also apparently a few roles here and there, after having suffered a stroke. He's had a pretty colorful career, and I can't help but wonder if he is doing it for the love or the money. One would hope he'd be able to live off of royalties or some other sort of retirement plan. On the other hand, I do admire his courage, and I'm quite sure it's hard work for him to be as functional as he is. I wrote a little article about it, if anyone is interested: https://vocal.media/geeks/tim-curry-s-time-warp-again

I'm 33 and having a premature midlife crisis. I turned down rich bitch. She invited me to the family estate for Christmas and I said no. I cut off contact from the other one, the only woman I've ever loved, the one whose friend I assaulted. I've maintained the no contact rule for four months and intend to maintain it in perpetuity. As for Lady k, she could be dead for all I know. The rogaine has worked, surprisingly, and I have a full head of hair again. The cycling has even paid off and I'm losing the pounds. Decent job, my own office, money in the bank. Thinking about a leather jacket. Am I too old for a leather jacket? I don't mean a dad's one…

hey WATMM, thanks for your help and interesting ideas about IDM/braindance the last time I posted a topic. The feedback was humbling for the research, plus the sarcasm and general lels were pretty helpful too lmao If you are interested in helping further, I put together a quick, structured form to more easily track some community data for both idm/braindance related queries and representational data: https://forms.gle/zdNSAgEuoEjkJYNc9 If you choose to participate, you can be sure that all of the data is anonymous and no information is tracked beyond your answers (no emails, names, anything that specifically identifies you). Since this project is limited in its sco…

Apparently there's no thread for this yet so here it is Any bilingual or multi lingual folks here? I'm learning French atm and I'm just looking for some advice on language learning. Obviously full immersion is not an option for me at this point but I do have quite a bit of spare time outside of work. Any suggestions?

I've been fascinated by this "greatest propaganda machine in history" era we're living in. Cohen, surprisingly and not surprisingly, does an excellent job formulating insightful, high-level observations about the information issue. I just wanted to share this excellent speech and I thought some WATMMers would like it.

Where do you draw the line? I've picked a few bad movies recently; Honeymoon, Monsters: Dark Continent and Spring, each I hated almost from the start but I persevered until the credits as my loathing continued. I can't think of many films that I thought were shit but grew on me so why waste the time?

Oftentimes I find myself looking for words that simply don't exist in order to complete whatever train of thought/verbal exchange I'm having. This is a thread for compiling those. Bonus points for suggested word to represent the thing, and/or an example of some such word in another language. I'll start: 1. That bit between the upper lip and the nose upon which a moustache will grow if a man does not shave. I nominate the term stachia (pronounced with a soft "ah" in UK vs. hard "ay" in US). 2. A word indicating when you are okay with an outcome because, despite it being unfortunate on the surface, it is ultimately for the best. Ex: "I could _____ the fac…

Screenwriters John Brancato and Michael Ferris (The Game, The Net, Terminators, etc) 1 2

So by now some of you guys may know about my obsession with the David Fincher film "The Game" which I went as far as to create multiple tribute albums/alternative soundtracks to (as well as a comprehensive online and IRL scavenger hunt based on the film). Anyway, I thought instead of creating a thread on the film- which I may do as well- that I'd draw focus to the screenwriters John Brancato and Michael Ferris--which not much is known or published about them outside of just their list of credits, at least that I could find. This screenwriting duo who penned the film's story, have a vast resume of films - and they all share a similar thread: very paranoid, conspiratori…

I sort of hesitate to make a new thread for this, but not sure it really fits in the larger movies thread. Between school, work, baby and life in general, find myself being drawn to watching films that are not too substative (but not just dumb) and look amazing. Basically, things I could just smoke and veg out to. Any recommendations? Things that I think fall in this category are: Jupiter Ascending - total fairy tale/fluff but great world building and visually awesome Batman V Superman - I just rewatched the extended version and PM loved it. It's actually more thematically dense than I think people give it credit for, looks amazeballs, not too challenging on t…

Meditation 1 2 3

For a long time I've been resisting to actually pay attention to anything (transcendental) meditation related even though there has been that growing fad of people I respect like David Lynch saying how great it is and how it can change your life. I've been really skeptical with the subject for two simple reasons: *Doubts whether it can actually work or being another result of the placebo effect or at worse a scam people invented to get as much money as possible from other people. *The connection with any religions and/or cults etc. which have no purpose or meaning in my life. Yet I've read (in this forum too) about some very positive experiences from people wh…

Big fan of Cunningham's work, and would love to see information about it from across the subforums centralized here. I have several interviews scoured from the web over the years that I will post here shortly. Another Man magazine's latest issue (A/W 2014) has a new interview and notes that a new work is "on the brink of release." Their website includes this excellent playlist of selections by Cunningham. Also, to tie in with the recent Star Wars teaser, here's Cunningham's visual remix of Empire Strikes Back:

I've always considered a neckbeard to be this i.e. face clean shaven with hair on the neck. Popular with 19th century intellectuals and 21st century basement dwellers alike. However, I keep seeing it being used to refer to people with full beards which aren't neatly trimmed. The problem is overly coiffuerd facial hair does not work for 90% of people and is the purview of spivs, unsophisticated americans, social media haircut spam cunts, eurotrash in tight jeans and arabs who want to pass as eurotrash by having overly coiffured facial hair and wearing tight jeans so that eastern european prostitutes are slightly less repulsed by them, or roided up …
