I just got John Coltrane's A Love Supreme as well as Miles Davis' Kind of Blue. Can anyone here make other suggestions of great jazz albums? Never knew I would like jazz but in fact I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

Dunno if this has been done or if it will work. Same thing as the film thread, except with albums. Rule: You must've listened through the whole album recently. Don't talk about some album you had heard a year ago, or an album where you've heard a couple of tracks out of from some playlist or whilst shuffling your library. Also, it'd be nice if you gave us some sort of idea what the genre is, or what it sounds like. Anyways, here goes. Oval's Wohnton (1992): 7/10 It's essentially Oval's later glitch sound mixed with Trip-Hop and a German vocalist. As a result, it's a lot more accessible than Oval's other work. I'll have to give it another listen through.

We have a jazz thead. Why souldn't we have a Hip Hop/Rap thread aswell? When i was younger.. All i listened to was hip hop. I haven't listened or been into for a couple of years now, but i'm starting to get into it again. It's genre which contain some of the best and worst music ever made. I can understand why some people love it, and why some people hate it. But awful rap music seems to be a more nowadays kind of thing, so much amazing rap music was made in the 80's & 90's. Well the WATMM server wiped out the prior Coil thread so we may as well have a new one for people like myself who like to ramble about Coil until the proverbial cows come home. I'm very much looking forward to getting Colour Sound Oblivion in the mail. It'll be nice to see so elaborate a package in the "flesh", so to speak, as we may have something similar to look forward to in the coming years, as Sleaz has mentioned the possibility of issuing the entire Coil catalog on Blu-Ray with "many things that could be exclusive to that set". He says he would only do this if Blu-Ray is established as a standard medium for audio playback, which may or may not be very likely. I…

As a big fan of US Hip-Hop during the golden years of Public Enemy, NWA, Tribe Called Quest, Wu Tang Clan, I kind of lost interest when it became more about the money, mainstream success and high production values. Step forward to 1999 and an album that past me by at the time - MF Doom Operation: Doomsday. In fact I only got to know DOOM by 2004 when he released Madvillain with Madlib and for me it was a real revelation mixing the abstract lyrics of Kool Keith with the production I've been craving since RZA when he was top of his game. Still don't listen to much US Hip-Hop but this guy is just the best, pioneering the US underground since 93 and hi…

Hi all. I realized music that sounds like spiritual, etheric ambient glitch/techno is the type of music that my mind resonates with the most. Some examples might be Oval, Vladislav Delay, SND, Visible Cloaks, Huerco S., etc. Do you know something similar? Can be visuals too. https://www.webdesignmuseum.org/flash-websites/sixstation-2002

What's the story with this group? After seeing the white room pop up on various must-have-in-eletronic lists I finally decided to check it out. It's like fresh fettucini with a sprinkle of parmesan. Gets me pumped for a battle with jon claude van damme. I heard they disbanded after this album and an insane performance involving sheeps blood. Anything obscure worth checking out? Discuss

I'm big on drum'n'bass.... though honestly I prefer to hear it instrumental, BUT, sometimes, an MC can add alot to the mix as well. One of the biggest ones was MC Conrad. He recently passed away. Most known for joining LTJ Bukem over the years. I'm sure some peeps heard, know or knew him. Big up, and big thanks champ:

Afrobeat only turns up 9 hits on watmm, so I figured I'd make this thread in celebration of one of the greatest musicians of all time, Fela Kuti. Fela Anikulapo Kuti (1938 — 1997), or simply Fela, was a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist musician and composer, pioneer of Afrobeat music, and human rights activist. - Wikipedia Fela Kuti & Egypt 80 - CBB (Confusion Break Bones) [youtubehd]BBD2CXMBWQ4[/youtubehd] Deadi bodi geti accidenti. Yee pa! Confusion breaki boni. Yepa! Na double wahala for deadi bodi And the owner of deadi bodi Double wahala for deadi bodi... --- Fela Kuti was the mouthpiece of Nigerian counterculture in the 1970s. He developed a…

Underworld were probably the people who initially really turned me on to electronic music in a serious way. Both 'Dubnobasswithmyheadman' and 'Second Toughest In The Infants' are triumphs of what can be done musically within the constraint of electronic music. Deep, technical albums. The many supporting EPs that were released along side them were huge, significant remixes - many of which could have served as the main body of work for any other artist. 'Beaucoup Fish' released in '98 and was a more dance floor orientated album. Rhythmically and tonally a departure from the earlier material but still very much recognisable. Many tracks being a twist on straight techno.…

Every time there's a new release there's normally a fair bit of discussion in the relevant thread, so I thought it was about time to start a general FSOL thread. Also, I just started a new blog called Fractional Difference, in which I'll be going through every release and song, in order, and looking at various things... all the facts, connections with other tracks, and my own personal feelings about them. It's going to take forever (they released 180 tracks on the launch of FSOLDigital alone), but I'm quite looking forward to revisiting the whole catalogue over the next however long it takes. So far I've done an About page which explains my discovery of the band and …

I've been on a psych kick for a few years now and wondering what others in this scene listen to? Already a fan of rock sounding stuff like Amorphous Androgynous, Flaming Lips etc but looking for some new blood. Recently discovered Psychic Ills so maybe somethings along those lines.

So, except for this thread I couldn't find much appreciation for such a pioneering band, I do not know much about them except that I love Loh Land, Mohnomische and especially Assault and Mirage with all of my heart: They also run the radio show "A Duck in a Tree" since 2012 (edit: with 219 editions!), which has helped me discover some incredible music... Please enlighten me on other works of theirs, and appreciate the sounds

Just saw him perform last Friday at the London Contmporary Music Festival. Lush to see him return to his Multistability era after a good few years concentrating on more 'contemporary' and non-electronic stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTmKZS8yeHk Fuckin banging Fell is probably my fave electronic musician after the autocray m8s so I thought it would be nice to share tracks and enthusiasm towards his u n i q u e a e s t h e t i c Not erasing Mat Steel from history here. I've wanted to do this thread for a while. Drone music has many faces, but often hard to find. I've never read anything in this forum about it, except for an old thread where the discussion was more focused into explaining the difference between ambient and drone instead of sharing rare and astonishing drone pieces. Would be great if this thread turns into a nice thing worthy of his pretentious title! I'll start showing what I mean with awesome drone music (in different styles) Classic: Less classic: Avant-garde: http://isakedberg.com/Λ.wav (fucking incredible) Anyone into this k…

in the past 20 years we've gone from the East Coast vs West Coast debacle, to Nicki Minaj vs Iggy Azalea, lol. It's a new century for sure, a lot more entertaining (we need a break from reality lite than ever as the earth descends into chaos) and a lot more lighthearted. It's a sexy rap war oooh! and leave it to women to bring it on, sweet.
